Unsure Of Which Route To take
Hey guys, soon I will be embarking on my first Ls swap into my thirdgen and I am looking for some input on which route I should take.
At the moment my thirdgen is my daily driver and after the swap It will continue to be. Im looking to make at least 400 at the wheels to start but I would also like to have room to grow. Maybe add some forced induction down the line.
Right now the power plants I am looking at are either a 5.3 6.2 or 5.7
I want to stay fuel injected and I definitely want a T56
My biggest concern is should I buy used or new
Chevy offers a 5.3 for about 6k that comes with just about all the accessories (most of which I probably cant use)
Hawks offers a 6.2 longblock With forged internals that comes with no accessories but its rated at 450 crank and good for about 8psi for 6k
Hawks also offers a used 5.7 with t56 for about 5k and of course there are a ton of people selling the same thing on craigslist
Im uncertain of which way to go and any input would be greatly appreciated.
I still have a ton of time before I start this project but I would like to be fully prepared before I do. Going to do as much research as possible on here.
Thanks -Luis

Don't decide on anything before talking to Pocket. THEN, you live in Houston for flood's sake - lot of speed shops around.
It all comes down to what's available around you.
There's no replacement for displacement. I would look for 6.0 (LS2, LQ9, & LQ4 in this order). 24x tooth keeping your throttle cable and 411 ecm has lots of support around here.

Whatever motor you can get your hands on thats local and affordable will do 400whp.the iron blocks lends themselves to be more boost friendly due to low compression.Id focus more on the getting a thought out drivetrain like what trans you wan to use..all the swap parts etc.The used market for motors makes buying new hard to compete with unless you want some form of a warranty.
But for future goals of boos then id suggest the 5.3 motor and a heathy amount of boost will easily shy under 600whp stock.
