5.3 DIPSTICK ISSUE

Got the old 305 tuned port setup an transmission out of the car a week or two ago. Now i am stuck in a pickle. Was told the engine i got was out of a trail blazer, awd. These engines had the dipstick go through the pan. I already bought a ls1 camaro oilpan and dipstick kit for cheap, and realized there is no dipstick tube in the newer pan. Have any of you guys come across this issue and what did you do?

Was thinking maybe fill the pan up with 5.5 qts and draw a line and drill a dipstick hole through. Otherwise i have no clue what to do. A shop in my area said they would drill through the block where the boss is but they have never done it before and id rather not just waste a whole block iv been putting together for the last 6 months lol
Any info would be appreciated thanks alot!

I think a lot of people just drill a hole in the block. Its not that bad. Just make sure you put a rubber boot in it for the dipstick tube and youll be fine.

This is for an LS7, but it is probably the same you need for what you have

Re: 5.3 DIPSTICK ISSUE

So drilling through the block is not that big of an issue? Not to many concerns or issues? anybody know the exact size drill bit?

Re: 5.3 DIPSTICK ISSUE

I would just measure the dip stick tube when you get it to size the bit

Re: 5.3 DIPSTICK ISSUE

I just had to do this today. I have an aluminum 5.3 from a 2004 trail blazer I made a pilot hole with a small bit, don't remember the size. Then used a 3/8 drill bit. Tube now fits great. Wish I realized there was no hole before I set my engine and transmission in. Had to take the engine back out to do the job.
