1984 SC budget build

Hey guys, I recently picked up a 1984 hardtop Sport Coupe for next to nothing. It came from the factory as with the lg4 305, auto trans, and 3.08 gears. While it's not in the best condition, it could be much worse and I see potential. I started out more of a truck guy and still love trucks, but I figure it's time to pick up a project car. This will be a pretty bare bones budget street/strip car that I plan on racing and cruising around town. I plan on doing as much of the work done to the car as I can.

I found the car on Craigslist, and picked it up the same day it was posted. The interior was nearly complete but everything was stacked on top of each other, the car had previously been stripped to make a drag car then sat in a pole barn for 6 years. Most of the wiring for the whole car has been cut or tampered with.. why? Who knows.. but I was going to strip all unecessary wiring anyways so I'm not too worried about it. Both rear quarter panels look as if paint stripper had been applied and they tried scraping the paint off.. There is currently no motor but there is a trans sitting in it held by some metal wire, and it's more than likely junk.

Here she is basking in her glory, I call it the Oral-B paint job.. she should be in primer soon awaiting a gloss white paintjob. The body is actually straight other than a dent in the drivers door panel and quarter panel that should pull out no problem.

Re: 1984 SC budget build

Right now I have started with the interior. After sorting through everything that was in the car, I have cleaned up everything that I am going to use. I have cleaned up and repainted the floor and will finish up painting all interior metal black. I ended up finding a good rear carpet in the car so I removed the backing and will clean it up and use it. I plan on ordering some ozite carpet for the rest of the car. The seats that were in it were not original or in great shape so I ended up trading them for some grey 4th gen leather seats, they'll need recovered sometime but that's not high on the list. Once I get the ozite carpet in I'll have most of the interior done besides gauges and wiring.

Here's a few pics in of the interior and "progress" I have made.

Re: 1984 SC budget build

After that I plan to move to the engine bay to clean and spray black. I will be using a 357 that's in my dads 68 chevelle for now, after we swap his 383 in it. The 357 has bow tie vortec heads that have been slightly worked, rpm airgap intake, comp 268 cam, 1.6 rockers, etc. Will be changing the cam for something larger, not sure what yet. I'll be going with a th400 trans and a 3400 or larger converter. Not sure what rear I'll be going with yet, but will certainly not keep the 10 bolt. Eventually I plan on going single turbo ls motor as I am partial to them and am itching to do a turbo build, that won't be for a while though. I'll update this thread as much as possible, it will be a slow build but she'll get there.

Here is a before ad after of my first truck, 1984 c10.
