Re: 88 GTA Resuscitation.. saving another one

I paid $129 Freight on mine total was $582. I kinda laid the spoiler up there and it looked close but I will let you know exactly how close it fits in the next week I hope. I tell you one thing its a fraction of the OEM spoiler as far as weight. Im pretty much ready for paint but gona go over everything once more after wet sanding and washing yesterday.

Re: 88 GTA Resuscitation.. saving another one

I've heard it's about 40 pounds of difference. I have the one from Hawks. Bought it a year or so back as part of a group purchase here. Sadly, it's still in the box. Setting it in place, it looks like a good fit, but I expect it to need some tweaking for sure.

I has assumed the Classic and Hawks pieces were made by the same people?

It was funny...the UPS driver who dropped this off, rang my door bell and had me open and inspect it before signing for it. When he saw what it was, he asked what it fit. Turns out he has an IROC. So we got to talk cars for a few.

It is feather light. Should be worth a 10th of a second in the quarter right there!

Great find Battman, as others have mentioned a steal of a deal. Can't wait to see it with a proper spoiler and the new paint. You do nice work, the car looks and runs fantastic!

Made a few mods to the car this weekend, lowered it 2 inches and put a set of ZR1 wheels on it. Also did an adjustable pan hard bar and tubular LCA's

nice find. Its too bad they didn't make the GTA wheels wider in the 17" OER rims

as for the spoiler I made a post in the product review with pictures comparing the hawks vs the OER defiantly not the same company as I had both in hand. there appears to be at least two additional people making them as well. one sells them on e-bay I think he is out of California if i remember but the lines looked pretty wavy even in his grainy pictures.

Yeah, id love to have the the GTA replicas in a 10.5 or 11" wide rears.

I'll look up your review on both spoilers. I'm currently working on putting a 4th gen spoiler on it to see how i like it.. If I don't like it I'm going with one of the repros.

Re: 88 GTA Resuscitation.. saving another one

My spoiler from classic industries took a lil more than just priming and sanding to get ready. It had some pretty rough places on it when I looked at it closely. I plan on fitting it 2day if I get a chance and painting it toward the weekend. I will let ya know how that goes.

Sounds like typical aftermarket parts fitment, they get it kind of close and they leave it up to you to make it right.. for what they charge for some of this stuff you would expect it to be right out of the box.

I agree. But to their defense, which "one" 25+ y.o. decklid are you going to go grab, declare it to be "the standard", and design your part to fit it perfectly? They weren't all alike when new.

Re: 88 GTA Resuscitation.. saving another one

True Dave, but so far I've read that most require massaging to fit. I have a good original aero spoiler on my 87 GTA and I have test fit it on an 86, 87 and 88 deck lids and it fits perfectly.

I guess I should quit complaining and just be thankful for having a part available and the ability to make it work lol.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it so far. I've been daily driving it for the past few weeks and enjoying every minute of it.

Re: 88 GTA Resuscitation.. saving another one

Had to drill my holes out a lil wider in my decklid to get spoiler to fit and a lil massaging to fit it just rite on the sides but overall it looks good once I got it on.

Any metal, properly welded, should be as strong or strong than the metal around it. If you can cut the donor parts to fit well, keep the suspension geometry right, and get a quality weld, it should be OK.

If you want to build confidence in the notion that anything is possible, check out this thread in this section.

As Dave said, any properly welded metal is as strong as the original piece. That being said I'd just section in the new pieces, should be a fairly easy repair.

Finally got the 4th gen spoiler painted and installed.. The look is growing on me, the fit was much better than I thought it would be.
