Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
Well, i was able to get the borrowed transmission in the car last night and got the tubes in place. obviously i'm not done yet. need to address the transmission "crossmember" portion of the cross tube (gonna cut the tube, put some 2 bolt flanges on either end, and going to brace that trans mount a bit as i know that angle iron barely welded to the bar isn't going to cut it as is). anyway, here's the progress pictures:

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
got the subframe rail stuff finished up
i have a feeling the hydlaulics are going to take some effort to get bled as we spent about 30 mins fooling with them, yet i don't feel like i have a full pedal yet. i figured the restrictor would bring some challenges. hope i can get it bled

thanks guys. it's 1.25"x.065" chromoly. i wanted to make sure i wasn't adding a bunch of weight, yet make sure it was strong.
gtpro700, i appreciate that, but a lot of the pressure to get the projects done is a little unjustified. i have a desire to get back on the track more than anything in the world, and it's driving me absolutely nuts.

still waiting....the story goes that the g-force shaft i ok'd and paid for will not work after all, and they've procured an oe viper shaft to put in the trans.
I haven't announced here yet, i just realized! My wife and I are expecting Elizabeth Marie Walter on 1-17-15 she is our first and i'm jumping out of my skin excited and scared at the same time. the first car related thing that crossed my mind when i finally settled down, was that the car is TOOOO loud. so i schemed for a little while and decided to put a single 4" bullet after my y-pipe and dump it before the axle. it's still loud, but it's a racecar, lol. it, however, has really refined the tone and made interior noise pretty dang tolerable. i'll try to get into a habit of not starting the car in the garage once the baby is here. i want her to love being around it, and the way it was before was just too much. picture and video

Utilizing a wide band O2 sensor with my single muffler showed more than a full point in AFRs between running with the muffler and by-passing it with a cut-out just ahead of it. That's through the traps at about 108 mph, 5500 rpm.

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
That'll be interesting to see if that affects the performance at all. There may be a significant change in the pulse tuning you were getting at the exhaust valve. Could be better, worse or unchanged depending on what it was like to begin with. You'd need a Pipe Max program to see how close you were theoretically in the first place. Were you running open headers with collector extensions? I haven't looked back to see.

...
agreed. i'm not sure what kind of performance difference it will have as of yet. the car was being run with an open y-pipe with 3" mini bullets right at the header collectors before. i've thought about a v-band clamp right at the ypipe to get before/after, but that's resources i don't have to spend right now. i will say that it seems to not want to accelerate as quickly on a free rev, but it still pulls like a freight train on the 3rd gear pull i did sunday. i can't beat on it too much with this borrowed trans as it's a stock unit from a buddy. i'll detail the results, likely in a new thread. this one is getting pretty long, lol.

congrats on the new addition from one father (4 in my house!) to another. it will change your life, and things you thought were important will seem like no big deal when she arrives. most people laugh when i tell them how much it changes a person(i used to be one of those people).
sounds good, i'm trying to decide what to run on mine when i redo the exhaust this winter. really struggling with bullet vs. ultraflow/maxflow.

You'll break it again LOL just kidding. Well I'm still waiting on my converter, I had to get it tighten up quite a bit. The new turbo set up did not like 3800 stall speed to much, but I just found out from the builder that it was looser than that. And the lock up clutch was all gone, metal on metal. I don't know how that happened because I don't do any WOT pulls with the converter locked or any 4th gear pulls. My TCC has unlock prevention set at 140 mph I wouldn't even see it locking up during a 1/4 pass.

I'll be watching your progress with interest. I've entered into the local brackets here (at my new to me track) and once the automatic lets go, I'll be looking into the T56 swap for sure. Might as well go for the good stuff for the get go.
Good luck.
Good luck.

the car seriously kicked my *** today guys. got the trans in and got everything all buttoned up, hit the key, and oil pressure won't go above 30psi. pulled front cover and inspected, didn't find anything, but i put my old o-ring back on the pickup tube (seemed to have a better fit). still nothing over 30 psi. found that the oil filter feed/return lines were switched. got it fixed but too late to start the car. here's to hoping it's all good and i can continue with reassembly.

it's all back together. was a very very long weekend, but i should be able to kinda chill this week during the evenings instead of thrashing. i put about 6 miles on the car. it's clunky, but in an awesome kinda wy. very positive feeling. i can't wait to get it back to the track. i got some other things taken care of too during this whole thing. put new carpet in, put new seat cover on, repainted the interior plastics, got the -8 carb feed lines on, etc.

Converter is back in, now time to T-n-T tonight at the track. Had the converter rebuilt and re-stalled. Should be fun?

got all the way there. sat in the pits for 10 mins and they called it. i wasted an entire tank of fuel in the truck hauling all over the place the last two days. headed to pro stick race tomorrow cold and out of practice. not happy.

Re: Winter 2013/2014 drag race suspension overhaul!
made 4 passes today. also stepped on the scale there at the track: 3201lbs with me in the car
first was a soft hit to get reaquanted. 2-step at 6K, car hooked and bogged to 3K, shift softed around 7K and went a 10.58 @ 131. it actually pulled the tires about 4" off the ground this pass.
second pass we got to business. 2-step upped to 6500, car spun a bit, no wheelie. shift points around 7300, went through traps at 6800 so i need to go up on gearing. career best 10.408 @ 132.15 on a slippery 1.51 60'.
third pass was 1st round of eliminations. lowered the 2-step to 6300, 60'd a little better but still spun. i ran a 10.42 on a 10.42 dial lifting at the big end. looking at incrementals i may have gone a .39 or a .38.
last pass i dialed a 10.40. car ran a 10.50 @ 130 and generally felt a little sluggish. the rearend was howling BADLY on the return road and my guess is the mph got ate up there.
all in all, not a terrible day. got some great data and i plan to do a gear change with this information. of course with the kind of noise the rear is making, i may be looking at a new rearend case as well, lol. the unit i have is a factory ford "N" case with billet caps, but i think i'm asking too much of it. anyone got an opinion on the yukon aluminum case? i see them advertised to hold 1200hp on ebay....i like the price and would love the weight savings.
anyway, here's a couple pictures. video will come later.
