timing question

I tried doing a search but I didn't really find anything. I was wondering how many degrees do you guys suggest to advance my timing on my LG4. Thanks.

Start at factory spec, then increase 2*'s until knock is detected, then back off a bit.

Each engine is different as is the grade/quality of fuel you use.
