Fuel Filter Replacement; how often

Guys, I have TPI in my 87 Monte Carlo SS. It has been at least 3 years since I installed the motor and I have never replaced the fuel filter. She gets about 500 - 1000 miles a year, during the summer, and is in storage winters. I use Stabil during the winter storage. How often should I replace the fuel filter?

Thanks,
Fred

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement; how often

My car gets about the same use and I change mine every 4-5 years. Good question though. Maybe I should cut the next one open and see what it looks like.

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement; how often

I looked through the maintenance schedule for the Camaro and it doesn't even list a replacement interval for the fuel filter.

I've found that when crank times get longer than "normal", replacing the fuel filter restores it back to "normal". I have no idea how long this takes.

I'd replace the filter every 30k miles with fuel system inspection. More often if you feel like it. Filters are relatively cheap enough.

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement; how often

The late, great John Lingenfelter said he changed the fuel filter every time he did maintenance on a vehicle, cheap insurance. So I try to do mine every year. Barely drive it, so change the oil/filter start of every summer and fuel filter too.
John was a guru and legend, guys like that give pointers, easy to follow it.

Re: Fuel Filter Replacement; how often

Thanks guys. Easy enough to change it every year prior to the summer driving season.
