1983 700R4 doesnt like 40mph?
Ok, so I just bought an '83 Z28 last month. When crusing at 40mph at barely any throttle, the trans goes to lock up, but gets confused or something. At under 40, the RPMs will be steady at 1800 to 2000 (via factory tach...not the most accurate I know) then after lockup, they drop to around 1400-1500. Now the ailment is at exactly 40 (which is the local speed limit, and the speed at which most drivers around here seem to drive at) it will go to lock up and just hang there. The car will suddenly nose down and feel like you hit the brakes hard. The engine does not falter at all... RPMs stay rock steady, but the body of the car acts like something major happened.
If you press the gas a little harder during this "down time", it will lockup and accelerate smoothly. It you let off it will not lock up and keep the RPMs at 1800 and slowly decellerate.
If you are accelerating harder and go right past 40mph, it locks up with no issues and stays locked up until you hit it hard or slow down under 40. It only does this bogging thing when cruising at 40mph with very light throttle pressure (enough to mantain 40mph) Faster than 40 is not always an option due to traffic, so I find myself, slowing down to 35 and leeting the guy in front get ahead, then speeding up to 45 and catching up just to slow down again.
Just trying to learn all the little quirks with a new car, but I dont think this is normal.
