700R4 hard shift
OK – so here's what's going on – I read both my first transmission it's a 7000R4out of a 1984 Pontiac Firebird has a 27 spline input shaft. All new bushings, new Spraggs, upgraded the pump to a 13 vane, and put in a Transgo shift kit. Corvette servo. Also put in a new torque converter, TV valve cable and speedometer cable. All the transmission mounts engine mounts and torque bar mount has been replaced with new bushings as well.
That being said here's what's going on… Doesn't matter if the car is hot or cold – when you put it from park to drive or from neutral into drive or reverse the car kind of jolts. While accelerating – under mild acceleration… If you do not let off on the gas right before it shifts, it will squeal the tires…
Now I know some of you are reading this and going – yes so what's the problem… Well I've also put in two new u-joints… And I don't want to tear up that u-joints and/or rear end because this car is shifting so hard. Now when you get on it, I don't mind if it picks up a little asphalt… But not under normal driving conditions. I do not like the way it jolts the car when you put it into drive… Any ideas of how to fix this?

Re: 700R4 hard shift
It is a self adjusting cable as you probably know. I couldn't get the old one to adjust; that is why I replaced it. I followed all of the setting instructions that I could find– push the button; push the sleeve all the way back – and then open throttle full throttle and it will adjust - which is indicated by the clicking sound. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a different way to ensure the proper adjustment?

Re: 700R4 hard shift
You were right – I adjusted the throttle valve so that I pulled the cable all the way towards the loose side until I had clearance – and then I put the adjustment back to where it just touched the throttle linkage. I then opened it to full throttle – and pulled on the cable to ensure that the valve was all the way open – which it was. Now the car is shifting like it is supposed to…
Was just getting frustrated since I have set this cable a hundred times according to factory and Internet specifications… As you could probably tell from the above post… I virtually have the method memorized. I just continued to get the same results.

Zero the cable out, then get in the car and mat the throttle all the way down (with no floor mats). With the car and everything off and quite, you should hear a single click.
Then be done with it-
Then be done with it-
