T56 Question.
So while trying to decide between buying a running TPI 305 (I'm looking at an IROC-Z, and a '91-'92 Z28, both auto) or buying a cheaper third-gen then doing the LS swap, I realize that whether I nitrous or turbo the 305 to my 500-horse goal, it's still going to be around 4400 RPM, and that means a lot more torque than an LS doing it up around 6500.
So which of these 3 options will be easiest on a T56?

You may want to regroup on your perceptions in a subforum other than the transmissions one.
The 2.66 / 0.50 T56 isn't what you'll want behind a 305.
The TPI intake isn't what you'll want to actually make power.
Peak power doesn't tell the whole story when it comes to drivability and useful power.
I am not sure what "easiest on a T56" is asking, but none of the power levels you're proposing are a challenge for one in proper running condition.

They're that strong?
The new T56 Magnum is only rated to 700 foot-pounds, and that's about what a 500-horse TPI should make, whether nitrous or turbo. So is the Magnum just marketing hype, and the original T56 was that strong to begin with?
I've seen claims of guys hurting them with stock LT1s, but I realize not everyone can drive well. I'm not the best myself, not even close.
Seems nitrous would be abusive with a big hit and no progressive controller, but that's a lot of fun. A friend fried a TH350 showing off for me. That was a 175-shot.
And shifting at high revs seems like it should be harder on the synchros?

Aftermarket and OEM ratings are different; if the TR6060 in the new Camaros was the Magnum instead of the fixed yoke, it would be rated somewhere under 600lb-ft, easy.
One of the most important things is ratios.
