Auburn or Zexel Torsen???
Which do you prefer: Auburn or HD Zexel-Torsen differential? I'm gonna be adding Richmond 3.73s also. I heard both units are good although I honestly haven't heard of Torsen till now. Thanks.

I like my HD Torsen, and there aren't any clutches to wear out, so it should never need to be replaced unless I break it. The way the rear end reacts has a different feeling to it when cornering than with the regular clutch-style Auburn diff, but I've gotten used to it and the Torsen puts the power down pretty good.

I've been very pleased with my Auburn Pro.
It's never failed or given me any problems, save being a bit agressive in corners in weather..
Mine is a Cone and cup Design if memory serves me right, so no clutches either.
It's survived 35,000 miles and well over a hundred passes at the drag strip, and some Auto crossing so I can't complain.

If you like "techy" answers...
The Torsen is Torque Biasing; meaning that the more torque inputted into the diff the more the diff locks the wheels. This has a big advantage over the Auburn pro. You can have the benefits of an open diff during casual driving and it will still lock the wheels during hard acceleration. When the car is on jack stands and you spin a wheel, you'd swear it was an open because the other wheel would effortlessly spin the opposite way . Conventional posi's, like the Auburn pro, take a certain amount of torque difference from the wheels to "break loose", while the Torsen is variable. It is more closely tuned to the amount of "bite" you need during certain situations, such as accelerating through a corner. I have the standard Torsen in my car, and it does everything I want it to. It has never given me a "one wheely pealy", doesn't "chirp" when taking slow sharp turns, and is very predictable in wet weather. If I want to get sideways around a corner it lets me do it. The big difference that I noticed when switching from my Auburn to the Torsen was when getting sideways around a corner. The auburn would get ya sideways then all at once snap you strait, while the torsen gets you sideways then gradually puts you strait. It feels a lot more secure.
I recommend the Torsen over the auburn any day.

another plus for the torsen is that you can get the SLP pulloff for $99...
and it will work with your existing axles...
always a plus in my book...
now to get me some 28 spline axles for my ttop car... so i can use the torsen...
later,
Chris

I had an auburn diff and I beleive that it totaly sucked. although I didn't purchase the pro unit, I got the standard within 1 year about 40000 miles no drag strips, it was just like a 1 wheel wonder car. When the car was in the air the wheels would spin effortlessly and the other would spin the other way. In my book pend the extra money and get the pro or just get the zexel, and be done with it.
