I used to run high milage in my bronco but with the price difference switched back to regular castrol gtx. I run it in everything. I thought that GTX was a nice high grade oil so im kind of suprised not many people have mentioned it.

Re: Which Oil is better?
I too have used Mobil 1 in every car I have owned since it was introduced. I have even used the Mobil Industrial synthetic (Pegasus 1) in some of my high speed engines at work. Caterpillars, Waukesha's, etc. I currently use Mobil Jet II synthetic in the 7,000 HP Allison turbine engines I have at work. (these are aircraft derivitive) I even send oil samples from each engine into a Mobil lab every month to monitor wear metals and see how the oil is holding up - such as Viscosity, total acid number, etc. These turbine engines run so hot that it even breaks down the synthetic oil! So.....you can see my committment to Mobil products..
However, with the ProCharger sitting out in the garage, I am just questioning whether to jump to Royal Purple or Amsoil. This thread has been helping me form an opinion for sure! I will keep you guys posted......

Re: Which Oil is better?
Castrol GTX used to be my hands down favorite conventional until they changed the emissions standard and took alot of the good additives out of it. Now it's Rotella T or Delo.

Re: Which Oil is better?
i will say that i'm sure somewhere down the line royal purple is better than conventional. but will you ever notice the difference in your car? in your wallet? i say just use a conventional oil such as valvoline and change it every 3000 miles with a quality filter. i say valvoline is the best its logo is red white and blue (redneck, white trash, blue collar). i've just been a believer in it since i started driving and just make sure you keep up with the changes. i would bet no mater how hard you abuse the engine or trans etc, nothing will happen from the oil quality if you just change it properly with a filter.

Re: Which Oil is better?
I have been running Castrol oil for 30+ years now, without any problems. Just change the oil and filter every 3000 miles or 6 months. Put 326K on a 318 Dodge, 240K on a 302 Mercury, and 245K on a 350 in a Chevy van, all with Castrol GTX 20W50. I could go on and on, but you get the point. The only exception is my Power Stroke diesel, which gets Rotella T, also without any problems. We tore down the 350 Chevy van for a rebuild @ 245K, and there was no sludge or build-up. It's good oil and cost's effective. I learned about Castrol oil while working at a VW service center while in high school. All the bug people used it because it it's resistance to breakdown due to high operating tempatures from the air cooled engines. All of my mechanic friends, all old dudes, say that it is more important to change the oil regularly, then which oil you select. Charles
