yea tractor fluid is a hydraulic fluid, same as trans fluid. However it has things that regular trans fluid does not. Since its a hydraulic fluid it basically can not foam, it can handle higher pressures (trans see 300psi max but tractor fluid has to be able to handle 2,000psi minimum) it also has higher tolerances to heat and its a much thicker fluid. Racers often use tractor fluid to help fine tune/dial in there converters. Since the fluid is thicker it can actually decrease the stall of the converter by 500rpms or more, not to mention firm up the shifts quite a bit and offer better lubrication to the rear planitaries and seals/bearings/thrust washers. Im not running alot as some put in 2 qts regular trans fluid and all the rest tractor fluid (trans fluid is to give it some color since its clear) and thats where u see the most dramatic results in shift firmness etc. However adding alittle like 1 gallon or so can help with lubrication etc which is what im doing. Tractor fluid is also much cheaper than trans fluid lol. i got a gallon of coastal tractor fluid for 10$, thats 2.50$ a qt! I get my b&M trickshift from summit and thats 4.75$ a qt and then the handling charge! At autozone B&M is like 7$ a qt.

so far im only running 4 qts tractor fluid (john deer hy-guard which is the good stuff) and 11qts of B&M trick shift. I will still have to add more and i have another gallon of the coastal tractor fluid.

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

I just ordered the 3' HD cable for mine, i'll post up the results once it gets here..

Mine has the typical problems in that it's hard to get out of park and seems kinda sloppy going through the gears. Also, it's bolted down correctly but still seems to have a fair amount of flex side to side.. is this normal?

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

Mine has the flex side to side but im not sure if it was from when the car was stolen if they messed with it. As long as it works good goin through the gears im happy!

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

side to side flex my car has too.

The cable that came with it works fine too. I really think you are adjusting it wrong. I wish y'all could come fill mine or I could feel yours to see what the difference is. Mine going into R is a tad hard but that is normal IMO. a tad is a real small tad.

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

My cable is pretty beat up from the previous owner. The adjustment threads on the trans side of it are all smashed so adjusting it is a bit of a challenge.

Also, all the parts to the indicator window were just tossed down inside. I think they are all there but anyone have a pic of it assembled?

Thanks

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

Of course, after i bought a new cable i found my issue... the previous owner installed the cable wrong. The metal bracket on the cable that bolts to the Megashifter was on the shifter side of the bracket.. which pushed the cable about 1/4" too close to the shifter.

This is why i had issues going into and out of Park. It would never fully go into the park position.

Now, another thing i noticed... the shifter itself is too far forward, which explains why it was hitting the console plate in ratchet mode and broke it.

Either way, all fixed and with the 3' cable adjusted properly it shifts like a dream.

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

Yeah mine does hit the console. I have my brackets all the way back and it hits. Doesnt really bother me that much. But when I get around to it ill make a custom console for it.

Re: B&M Megashifter not worth it

There is a metal brace that runs across behind the rear Megashifter bracket.. I just smacked that with a small sledge a few times and got the whole thing to slide back another 1/8".

I made a new sheet metal top and so far it all clears fine. You can see the ratchet arm hitting the inside of the rubber boot now instead of the console top.
