383 near complete..need some serious advice

It's been a few years in the making but I finally got her in the engine shop. Going 383 (all forged of course) TPIS miniram, Dart Alum 200, ZZ409 cam, 1.6 Roller Rockers, 6" Pushrods, Hyd. lifters, 58mm throttle body, Bosch 30lbs inj., BBK underdrive pulleys.....100 shot of Nos paired with built 700r4 with B&M 2500 stall. Keeping 3.27 gears...

That being said....I'm thinking the following to round things out. I need some seriouse advice on:

Exhaust:
Hawks Stainless Headers and Y-pipe? Been told they are the best??
What cat-back to couple with them? Plan to keep the N10 cats

Suspension/Frame
Thinking UMI SFC, Panhard, LCA, and Torque Arm??? Also, looking for a shop around Dayton, Ohio to weld in the SFC's???? Suggestions?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to complete any work myself. The lord blessed me.....just not in the way to save me money when it comes to building my car! I'm also in need of someone in the Dayton area to recover my seats and headliner.

Thanks guys! I will post pictures as soon as she is complete.

@ ringo234

Does Dyno Don make a stainless header? I really want something that is going to last.

@ ronusmc

Thanks for the help. Got one on the way...

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

no pics yet...waiting on the heads from TPIS. Once they have arrived it will be about a week. I will post some stock photos of her ASAP. It will be late fall before it is 100% complete. Once the engine/trans go back in I have to get the suspension mods completed and then its off to the interior shop. Paint is the final step and I don't have a time for it yet. The body shop owner is a family friend and wants me to wait until they slow down (we had a bad hail storm a year ago and he is still trying to catch up) They are taking it down to metal so it will be a slow process.

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

They are ceramic coated and have 1 3/4"primaries and 2 1/2" collectors, others are 1 5/8" and 2 1/4" collectors. I've had mine for 5 years now and no problems. He also makes the y-pipe.
P.S. you can also get them power coated black instead of silver.

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

I would do a 2x4 mild steel .120 weld it to the pinch seam and tie it to the "frame" at the trailing arm point out back, and at the front with some sheet, and one from about where the trans crossbeam is.
I hope this is clear,
clear as mud?

we need Pictures!!

FlyDoc......

Are you speaking English? LOL I have no idea what you mean. Like I mentioned.....I have very little knowledge.

I am going to use Hawks (Stainless Works) longtubes. Now the issue I have is the y-pipe. I'm having a UMI torque arm installed and the new crossmember will not allow me to use Hawks y-pipe. I am looking for a shop to fab one for me. Anyone you know in Dayton/Cincy, Ohio

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

Its somewhat difficult to keep dual N10 cats with long tubes and still have ground clearance. If you want cats and a good header, get dyno don's setup. Its not stainless but a coated header will last a while

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

I have a similar set up on my 89 GTA I have hooker long tubes with 3inch collectors going into 4 inch single mufflex. The headers are ceramic coated the muflex is not. Both have held up well over the past 10 or so years. The thing I like about the mufflex is they use band clamps which means I can easily remove the exhaust. Do not use crush clamps.

Dyno Dons stuff is great, if you are running 4" tell himhecan put the right size collector on. Quality product and he can usually customise to fit your particular needs....

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

Thanks for the advice guys. My Hawks (stainless works) 1 3/4" with 3" collectors arrived today. I found a shop here is Dayton that will mock up my y-pipe and send it off to Stainless Works for fabrication. Only thing I'm waiting on now is the heads. They shippped on Friday....I figure they will be here by end of the week.

@89GTA...You mention you have a similar set up. Are you running N20? I was thinking about adding a 100-125 shot for ***** and giggles.... I may wait to see if I can get the car to lock up. I've put on sportlines, UMI LCA's (with relocation brackets), Panhard, SFC's, Torque Arm and crossmember.... I am picking up some cross-laced off an 88 GTA on Saturday. So obviously I running 16x8's with Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. We'll find out......not soon enough!

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

One thing about 383's is they tend to like a exhaust improvements. What is amazing is they respond to that at a low rpm improving the torque curve if cam right.

@1Gary

Cam is a TPIS ZZ409: .520" lift, 226 Duration, and 112 lobe. I'm expecting 470-480hp. Possibly going to port and polish the Pro 1 200cc to pull a few more out of it. Pictures will follow when complete.

Re: 383 near complete..need some serious advice

I'm not too good with the injection part. I had to change my sfc from comp engineering to Spohn's sfc's. What a difference. My new headers didn't work with comp eng. So I had to swap. I went from small block to big block.
