AFR 190 questions

I am finally biting the bullet and just spending the extra to get the AFR 190's. Do the studs that come with the complete heads allow the use of roller rocker? I noticed in Summit that they have studs listed just for use with roller rockers. Any difference in these? Crane studs I think. I have never used roller rockers before, just roller tipped. Also, anyone know the max lift of the springs used on the AFR 190 complete heads? Should I upgrade to the ARP 190,000 PSI 7/16 studs since I am buying rockers anyways. 7/16 will allow less valvetrain vibration/flex.

You can use roller rockers with the studs that come on AFR heads.

Max lift with the default springs is about .550" I ordered the upgrade to handle up to .600" lift.

AFRs come with new valves, so you don't need to worry about them.

Rockers and lifters you should be able to re-use. You need hardened pushrods with the AFRs because they use guideplates. You should NOT use standard non-hardened pushrods, because the guideplate will wear out the pushrod.

Additionally, don't order pushrods just yet; get a checking pushrod and measure to see exactly what length of pushrods you need...

so i should take out my push rod first and measure it before i get a hardened one? Is there any kind of chart or some thin that tells the length of my push rods b/c i only want to have to take my engine apart once for now.

There's a tool called a pushrod length checker.

The reason your pushrod length can change is
due to things like aftermarket rocker arms, rocker
arms with different ratios, head milling, aftermarket
heads, etc...

It'll take a few days and a few dollars extra to put
your ride back together, but I'd recommend doing the
right thing...

Order a pushrod length checker for your engine and
a pair of checking valve springs. Some machinists
blue could also be helpful to watch the contact pattern
on the tip of the valve.
