What do you think of POR 15 or Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator?

I have a 1991 Camaro Z28 with severe rust spots. I want to find reputation and quality of these companies. Your responses will greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've used POR-15 several times and I have nothing but praise for the product.

POR 15

I have coated a lot of under car equipment with it and I like it a lot. I am currently in the process of refinishing my floorpans with it. Really good stuff and if you search the msg. boards for it you will get a lot of good info.

DO you have any pics of POR-15 painted areas?

I was wondering what POR-15 is all about. Is it an actual paint, or just a rust-blocker, which needs to be painted over.

thanks,

KZad

bonds to rust stops it. it is a paint. you can paint over it, but it needs to be sanded.

stuf is hard as nails, not really any need to paint over it.

So it really is the perfect, and only, product needed to paint a rusty old rear to put in my car? AWESOME.

My results

I did my floors and they came out pretty good... just make sure that you prep it EXACTLY as directed. I had a couple of spots that could have been preped better and POR did not stick.

For you experienced users, any tips for preping where the original paint is still holding strong?

Thanks

Eastwoods rust encapsulator is a great product.I think it used to be called Coroless. To be honest I've had better results with this than POR-15.ERE is basically a primer and can be sprayed on top of etch primer and then covered in 2-pack or smoothrite etc.I've seen parts painted like this immersed in water for a few years, and not a speck of rust has come through.POR is fine stuff, but it's a bit agricultural.Great if you want to paint over rust but why not just get rid of it.

my painter is using a product that he says is just as good as por 15 and 1/2 the cost. its called sims, or simz, not positive which, but he has a dump trailer that he painted with it 12 years ago and it still looks good. and yes the trailer is used regulary and stored out doors. just something else to look into

your pans can be in THAT bad of shape and you can just paint over it?? You dont have to sand off all that rust off first??? Cause mine arent nearly that bad and I was thinking about sanding all the rust off then using POR 15....
