Once this manifold is made, whoever buys it can measure runner tube dimensions and length, as well as port size/etc. Then if we are lucky someone can flow test one
That way we can estimate what numbers will be made
Brian did state that the id of the runners was 1.70 inch. Not bad but as you indicated the intake manifold will tell the tale. It has been awhile since he has has the modified 3rd in for testing purposes. I would have thought we would have heard something by now.
dont know if this has been mentioned or not but there was a small clip of a new bbk tpi intake in the new super chevy magazine. No pics or prices though. It was in the section of new products.
Yeah, as stated before, the newest Super Chevy magazine says that it will be called the SSI intake manifold. 1 3/4" tubular, 14 inch long runners. Says at 5,074 rpm it made 50 horsepower/52 ft lb of torque over stock TPI.
Just how is this supposed to be an improvement over the SuperRam or the Stealthram. I dont get it! Sorry guys, I think BBK is very late to our party.
I like my idea that I proposed here one or two years ago. An LS1/LS6 type intake for our L98s. Someone had posted that it would not work, but I still say BS to that. I'd be glad to help a company design it, I know how to do it.

DITTO, i'd love to see composite intakes and one like the ls6 would be sweet on our cars. There is no reason it wouldnt work. Such a lightweight piece too
1. Potentially a larger and better runner design.
2. Potentially a better intake manifold design.
3. Regarding the Stealthram it will be CARB legal.
4. You get to keep the stock fuel rails.
1. Potentially a larger and better runner design.
--------I'd like to see some runner dimensions, then we will know, but by looking at the design I dont see better flow charteristics.
2. Potentially a better intake manifold design.
--------Same here as above, lets see some back to back tests. I simply do not see the hype here, i see new real advantage.
3. Regarding the Stealthram it will be CARB legal.
--------That the one issue with the StealthRam.
And then someone mentioned maybe easier to assemble than the SuperRam.
This is really a joke! This turtle ram (cant we come up with a better name?) assembles same as my SuperRam. The runners bolt to the plenum from the underside, the same issues that the SuperRam has. Tell me about it, I've assembled my SuperRam too many times.
This Turtle Ram is very similar to the SuperRam is design, large top plenum,
short runners, and an intake manifold. I see nothing new here or an improvement. BBK copied the SuperRam in principle.

One more thing to note: The SuperRam is DISCONTINUED. If you want one one, you have to search eBay or classifieds and hope you find one with all the pieces.
If BBK releases their intake, you'll be able to buy it from Summit, JEG's ...etc.
im down, out in winter of 08 and preliminary priving is $699...hmm still better than HSR, im totally in for this, ill have my motor sitting in my room waiting for it

HSR is 650 or less with fuel lines, complete bolt in but that price is much more 'reasonable' or expected for this system
First off...Im not sure about it. Looks like the intake design was ripped from the 3.1/3.4 60* V6's
Price would be a big factor, but the intake still carries a lot of the problems of a LTR or shorter LTR intake design, does it not? It would be a good budget intake for modded 305's and 350's with a few add ons, but the quest for the greatest replacement TPI intake will go on.

I belive all you would need is a TPI base for Vortec heads which several companies make.

HSR still sounds like the deal. I have been out of the TGO world for so long, I forgot what the complications are with teh HSR. I just got my 87 back and running, and Im looking for an intake that can breath with the ZZ4 cam. I was gunna go HSR since EGR and AIR went buhbye, but dont know the total cost of installing it would comeo out to be.
It's been four years now since it was first announced.
How much R+D do you have to do reworking a proven existing design ?
I think you and others are completlry missing the point.
As I understand it---BBK had an idea for TPI manifold 4 years ago....it got shelved for a few years. So lets not pretend its been in development for 4 years!
Lots have happened in the last year--when the R&D took place. We now have pictures and a release date.
I would also like to see if someone could develop a multirunner intake like the Gen III/IV's for the Gen 1's. Problems I forsee are no EGR placement, and relocation of the coolant neck.

Like this? Yes its on a GM OHV V8---I will let you guess
If enough people are SERIOUSLY interested in getting this, shouldn't we be starting a Group Purchase? That would be a good way of showing BBK that they and other companies should not forget us third gen guys because we are still around and there are many of us. I would be in on a group purchase if someone else thinks this would be a good idea.

Is it cheating if I say what it is and where it's from ? lol
These are a great engine, the head design is not as good as an LSx but is better than even the vortec heads. Common as hell here too. They are the same bellhousing bolt pattern too. Pretty easy swap, but they are mostly 5L, but they are a 4 inch bore just like a 350, so a stroker crank can get them to 383 pretty easy.
I was going to buy a stealth ram this winter but since it won't fit under my strut tower brace I think I'll wait for this! I wonder if it is shorter than the stock TPI?
no go right ahead. Post some tech specs too--I can't find anything. Its from a 91
Ok then, it's from a VN-VS Holden Commodore, in this case a VP I think. This one is a 5 litre (the 5.7 only came in the HSV GTS Commodores). They were around 220hp standard for the 5L and around 300hp for the 5.7. They also respond very well to cam and tuning upgrades as the heads are good to around 400hp without any porting. The intake needs to be replaced at around the 320hp mark, but there are several options for that. The Holden V8s are very closely related to the Chev V8s, they are just a newer design, they were designed in the late 60s, so they addressed a few of the issues with the SBC, I have heard them refered to as "a small block Chev with the benefit of hindsight". Fitting one to a third-gen would be very easy, they bolt right up to the trans and the engine mounts would fit too. I know a guy with an 82 T/A that has one of these in it and it kills my LB9. I considered one as an engine swap, but if I do a swap it will be for an LSx.
GMHTP was at work today (COMP) doing an article in R&D and asked one of the staffers (Rick Squire) if they were going to do an article on the intake, he said yes and the staff thought the intake was intrresting. he was quite nice to talk to and said they dont have a date but they are going to do an atricle on the new BBK intake.

run it wide open till ya see g o d "THEN" brake!!
I spoke to BBK, and they said that the manifold is out for tooling. This particular manifold takes more time than most because of it's complexity of angles and multiple parts, so it should be ready in mid December.

The HSR doesn't clear a firebird hood without modification. I'd be willing to bet it doesn't clear a C4 vette hood either, I know the TPI plenum is really close to the hood on those too.
