Re: Dynoed my Car Today
I would like to see the best run graph of the HSR equipped car, the car with the smallest cam, least compression, and least displacement, for a good comparrison to the 'other' cars present... And, a good shot of the EGR installation on the HSR would be cool, also. No sour grapes here, but (I think) we all know the potential in 'that' motor. (This post is truly made in the spirit of fun n' friendly competition.)

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Well my last combo went 12.41@112 with just an extrude honed runner and base. Same heads with a lunati cam 226-234@565lift with 1.6 rockers. 340hp@5200-370tq@4400. So with a couple small changes this is what I get. Ok also this engine has an off set grind 305 crank with .040 over pistons.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Cool, my HSR motor made 380+ rwhp on two different days, two weeks apart, on the same dyno; I'll find the missing hp! Got lots of respect for your car Vincent and everybody else's, but you all know I'm onto something....or maybe I'm just on something...LOL!
Peace & love,

Its a nasty cam for a 355 I love it. Not as much grunt as I would have liked down low but 2200-6xxx rpm and whew boy hold on! It pulls HARD to 6500 then I let off...dont want to blow it up

Too bad you don't live in So. Cali. It would be an interesting race, Miniram vs Super Ram. Some people would say the SR will lose. But I doubt it.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Wow, I need to redyno my car, I only put down 289rwhp with a cammed LQ9 lol. Although...it had a loose map sensor, bad O2, 2 exhaust leaks, 3 intake leaks, stock tune for a 5.7, and about 10* too much timing throughout the RPM range.
How does it feel with that much power? I never got to try out the HSR before my 383 blew up on me.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
You guys would win, i wouldnt pass tech to run out there more than likely
Cant wait to see what you guys run tho. Whats the raceweight of the cars and whats typical race day weather like? 370-380whp should definately be a 11 second car. I'm impressed. I didnt have emissions to worry about and went with a fairly large cam for my 383 HSR. (230/245 .603/.613 109lsa) Only made 392whp/371wtq on a hot day and heatsoaked motor but still. You guys arent far off that with 20 less cubes and smog legal. You are doing something right. My track in the summer with a 3400-ish lb raceweight, i went 11.47 at 118 with best trap of 119. Sounds like you guys have a fun ride on your hands with good tires and 3400+ stall speed

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Actually, this run was from before I integrated the EGR system, and I don't recall the tune (A/F ratio) being that good from the session on ~9/16/09. I think my best from 3/13/10 was 365hp / 353 tq, with the A/F dialed in pretty well, by Kevin91Z. Don, could you post my best from 3/13/10? (Sorry to be such a pain.) Thanx!

i don't get it... the xfi 280 made peak from what i see at 5950 rpm. but everyone says the xfi 292 will go to 7000, if there that big of a difference, or have you considered trying it out to crest the 400rwhp mark?
impressive numbers man! remind me to get up with you on the tune, because i am building a similar afr headed 355.
well done man!

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
superram is probably causing peak to reach 6000 or so. That cam is capable of 6100-6200 or so in a 383, possibly more. Just needs right valve springs to control it that high and short runner intake. XFI 292 is a big cam. 12 more degrees duration, its a decent step up. It should peak in the 6500 rpm range and hold to 7000 on a 383. On a 355, there are guys using it in LT1's that say it doesnt peak til 7K and I dont doubt it. The CC306 is a big LT1 cam only type cam and it willgo to 6500-6700 so the XFI 292 will go even higher. That cam requires very strong springs and light valvetrain to control it that high tho. Heads need to be on the larger side to support those rpms too. 210cc heads would be awesome with XFI 292

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
How fast is it?
It's too bad you guys are crippled with the visual emissions check. I ran an expensive modified aftermarket TPI system, ported to the max, and the car wouldn't go faster than 110mph.. I put a home made singleplane efi on it and the thing went 119-120mph every pass.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Just curious to see how your intakes would perform with a tight LSA cam which should boost low to midrange performance while also helping out topend with the increased overlap.
Then again looking at the cams you have now, they are not what I'd call mild cams. Several 230+ deg cams in 350-370 inch motors passing cali smog is very impressive. makes me wonder why the LSx crowd doesnt go bigger than 224 most of the time with their cali cams.
Hard to say if a 108-110 lsa cam with the right valve events would significantly make a difference. Most of the short runner single plane types like abit of overlap and tighter LSA. Would be an interesting comparison, but like already said you guys are doing incredible things while meeting the standards. I'm not sure how much room for improvement there would be if no emissions were taken into account.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
We will be finding out shortly what the XFI292 camshaft is all about. There will be a 383 with an extensively modifed Super Ram going on the dyno with this cam installed. It will be in a 700R4 car and I would expect this combination to exceed 400rwhp. Exciting times around here.
There are many factors that determine where a motor will make peak horsepower. The camshaft is only part of the equation.

"Those superram runners will need to be short with big ports in the base to support that rpm range."
They are. This is the most modified Super Ram I have seen to date. A lot of attention to detail and how air flows has been paid to. It should make for a most interesting dyno session. However the SR looks stock from the outside. I would say the heads will be the restriction regarding the air flow.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
I wouldn't exactly call it crippled; the really, highly, max-effort modded TPI systems like 1989GTATransAm, Kevin91Z and Dyno Don run are near single-plane intake performance, and geting closer to S/P performance with each revision. And, VincentZ28's modded SuperRam holds on to the power at upper R's pretty darn well also. I went the other way, and adapted an EGR system to the HSR-and I'll bet a cold soda it will pass California visual and sniffer tests. I'm due for inspection this October. Most of us here in SoCal are not having much of a problem with good / great / excellent performance, while doing our part to keep the air clean.

Perhaps. The HSR will probably work well. Just saying, I've used a couple different intakes. Singleplane was always the fastest.
I used to live in Glendale btw, back in the early 90s. While I like the weather, the politics and brainwashing environmental ***** were a bit much for me. Lived in ma from early 90s until a few years ago, then moved to NH. Gas station down the street from me sells leaded gas at the pump.. God bless NH.
Perhaps crippled was a bit of a statement to make, but look at it this way. Hours and hours of time, and money into a big dollar LTR setup makes xxx power. I had a setup like that. Sold it for about $1000, and made a single plane intake for about $200.. Put $800 in my pocket, and went 10mph faster at the track. Just my experience. What is the difference from 110-120mph? maybe 100hp? 224 degree cam btw, at .050.. 6,000 RPM shift. Not like I was being an idiot trying to run a 300 degree solid roller on a LTR intake..
If you didn't pick up 5mph by converting to a singleplane I'd be shocked, honestly. Which might not matter to you, but at the time I was trying to race competitively.
These days, I'd rather play with my horses.

I wish...I had the motor all in but while trying to get bin files into Prominator( prom eliminator) the flash chip went bad. So I pulled it out of my cars ECM and shipped it out to Moates.net for repair. I had to cancel my dyno tune on 3/17. Next avalible date I got was 4/21.. but I'll post numbers after that dyno tune.

Do you have any port work done to the super ram? If not, it might not make it to 355hp.

well its already made 467HP@5500 and 517TQ@4000 with the SuperRam on, I have a few more cubic inch. That was on a engine stand dyno out of the car. Should make 385ish HP and 425TQ in the car.

Re: Dynoed my Car Today
Question: Why would a higher converter make for a bigger loss? Does it have to do with its weight or something? And i take it the 700r4 is just a garbage truck transmission.
