Unless something has changed (I last talked to Bruce about this several months ago), after all the effort to produce a mold (which was delayed several times) the first one out of the mold didn't fit. While I didn't see it, Bruce described it as being warped enough that you could see daylight under the edges of the hatch, and that he wasn't sure if he'd be able to do anything with it. We did test fit the original (Redraif's), but didn't notice any problems at the time(it was never bolted down, just resting on a third gen he was parting out), so we aren't sure if the original was warped to start with, or if it (and the mold) were warped in the moldmaking process. Either way, I think her has given up on this notch. We told him to just hold onto our original, that we would pick it up sometimes and see what we can do with it, but we haven't done that yet. I'm not even sure we'll be able to save it, but if so we might still try to get it reproed if there is enough interest to justify the time and expense involved.

what a shame. I'd throw down the money for it right now. who wouldn't want to drop all those pounds, lower the center of mass, and be able to remove the rear window for cruisin'?

Most factory notchs had different back seats. The same one in fact that the TTA had.

Don't completely count the Notch out. We are still trying to see if the warpage that occured to mine is fixable for the copies. So there may still be a slim chance!

Id gladly buy a warped or a so so so defect fit n finish notch back.

What I have planned for it, would make buying a new one a sin.

As id probably end up trasing most of it anyways.

If its gonna end up in the trash, Id buy it.

Well give Bruce a call, he might have a first run one he might part with that he can't sell otherwise! Mine regardless of what is wrong with it we are going to fix it for the 82! I just hope there is a way for Bruce to salvage the notch. He put so much time and effert in it to try to make it happen!

Is it as close to factory as this one? Or more like the the others that are available? Heck Bruce really wanted a factory one to duplicate, but one never presented itself!

the mold was made from a factory notch that myself anfdmy friend had in to get repaired (some cracks had developed allowing moiosture to get into the foam inside.. while it was apart we gave them permission to take a mold off it - i know they have tweaking to do, as well as hardware to work try and make work...

but i believe it will be very complete, and all struts will attach to the stock location

Well esp in that case, the only way I would but something is to go get it and fit it on the car first! If I like it then I will buy it and drive home with it on the car! That is what I did with my hood!

How many times can GT Auto change their name? Wonder if teh service is any better with the name change. I never delt with them, but heard some horror stories!

History lesson for those who are going to jump to conclusions....

When G&T first came into the picture there business was operated in florida. they actaully gained a good rep for *** quality parts ect.

THENNNNN they moved to CT.

People placed orders, and they took orders despite the move. As with most moves, things werenot smooth. It took them an extra month or so to make the move, and took them longer to find a place to start up again. Obviously orders were not met, money had been taken ect ect.

to make that long story short, they finally got back on their feet again, and now trhe orders have been filled, all the issues were worked out.

So far there are many postive stories here of parts and their quality, i would not hesitate to buy one of their pieces. i have SEEN their shop, tsalked with them, and there business is here to stay. they are very busy, and make plenty of parts now. if you have any doubts about them, like i said, CALL them...

Steve

I shot them an email and this is the response I got.
"Hello,

We do have the notchback just about ready. There are a few small things we need to work out first. We should have it ready in the next few weeks. This is the factory style notchback. We don't have an exact price but it should be in the $650 area. Keep checking back for the notchback!!"

Thanks for the info! Had not had the time as of late to call and inquire! Just asking to see what people knew about what I had heard 2nd hand! I never had any product dealings with them personally. Saying I wanted to go get the pieces personally is not a reflection on them, it just makes me feel better that I will be happy with what I'm buying, w/o the shipping headache!

Dunno. He said I was the second person to sign up for it, so it was on the way. Now that it's done he might sell them on the site OR it was so much of a pain in the @ss he's not going to bother. Give him a call or wait and see.

The project? Which one? The TA? The TTA? The house? LMAO! Too many projects - not enough time. I haven't done jack to either vehicle in ... ... way too long. The last thing I did was put fourth gen mirrors on - and that was in the spring of last year. Since then I've bought a house and spent most of my time 'modding' that! I wasn't even going to get the notchback, but I figgered with my luck I'd never find one that looks factory again, so what the heck. I removed all of my seamless stuff because the hairline cracks drove me nuts. What are you using to bond plastic to metal?

Good to see you posting again Scauffiel! We used a SEM two part product to bond plastic to metal...we'll post pics when its done. The stuff we used is supposed to be basically the same as Fusor (the paint store was out), and appears to have done a good job...we'll see.

congrats on the house...I have done way to little on my overwhelming projects as well! This mod is for RAIF. The painter is handling some paint repairs due to a tire piece hitting the car. I igure while he is doing that...I will get one of my on the list to do things done! Hopefully we will have the car assembled in the next few days and get some pics up! Sadly I'm driving it hoodless, headlightless and frt gfxless...ugh!

Thanks for the congrats - but it's just like the primer gray hole in the garage I throw money into; only worse. Sorry to hear about the damage, but at least it's getting fixed. What was the stuff you guys used? Something SEM? There were about a dozen different types of fusor items out there....

I'll check the name on it tonight...it was a two part tube with a special gun, and the stuff smelled and looked similar to JB weld. i think petty much all of the two part epoxy for bonding near anything (including bumper cover repair) has the same base, jsut different additives. It feels very solid, and the bond was near invisible once we sanded it. It took very little filler after that, and that was more due to the low spots in the original panel and poor fit of the factory pieces rather than anything else.

I always thought that NOTHING would let you bond plastic to metal or fiberglass to metal without eventually cracking. I was at a hot rod shop today that was building an Eleanor Mustang, but they were bonding the scoops and flares onto the car with Fusor instead of just bolting them on and leaving a seam. They say they have never had a problem with Fusor.

I guess a lot of bodyshops use that stuff instead of welding panels on now, because it takes much less time and doesn't warp the panels.

In the past that was true, but the new panel bonding adhesives are really good. In fact, I'm going to shave my gas filler door using the same technique...it'll be much easier, work just as well, and with no risk of warping the panel.
Hopefully Redraif will post pics of our little project today...not on the car yet, but painted and ready to be installed.

That looks great - I hope it holds up under daily driving conditions!! Is she running? I'll hold off on messing with any of this stuff until you've driven her for six months and through the winter.... JUST to be sure... LOL!

S.

EDIT: Oh, and I got my notchback, looks pretty good with some rough spots. I'll get pix soon. I'm kinda bummin cause I wanted the hardware to make the window removable, but I guess I should just be happy to have the notch....

can't wait for pics. how is the rear window held in? maybe you could rig something up to make it removable.

the notch is very similar to the factory style, about as close as anyone has seen i think. gt auto is supposedly making one that is a complete replica of factory though.

so I stumbled on this thread, since I was wondering whatever happened to the hawk's notchback project and I see it died almost 2 years ago... Bruce now sell them but I don't seem to find any feedback on this site about their quality... can you take the glass off? does the normal back seats fit with the notch? and what about G&T's? did a quick search and couldn't find their website... sorry to bring that thread from among the dead but I need you guy's input on all this... thanks

I think some of the people who were initially interested got their notches, but Redraif and I pretty much got screwed over. She bought the notch the mold was made from and shipped it to Bruce at her expense, his fiberglass guy most likely ruined (it seemed to fit fine when it arrived there, but doesn't now), and Shannon still doesn't have a notch, the one she originally bought or the two she was promised for use of her now-useless notch. Every time we ask Bruce about it, we get a sob story about how much it cost him to have it made, etc, and how we might could get a discount on another notch.

Shows what you get for trying to help a vendor, and the hobby.

that really sucks. i would expect more from bruce. who cares how much it cost him to have it made, that's his own sunk cost. what did shannon get out of the deal? sounds like nothing. it probably doesn't cost him much to make them now that the mold is done. at the very least he should give her a new one to replace the original that he ruined.

I have said it once and I will say it again. These cars must have screw us written all over them. I dont know why they dont pull these vendors off this site. I am sure it wouldnt take much looking to find someone to take there place. People are screwed over in the classified ads on this site by members . Rather then revoke there listing privilages they let them keep on doing it. I purchased an item last year from another member, I had to contact him and he had my payment 3 weeks before he sent out part. His explenation was sh&t happens.

This is actually the first complaint I've ever heard about Bruce and Hawks Thirdgen parts.
