Questions about airbag steering wheel removal
I have a 92 Camaro with an airbag in the steering wheel. I want to get one of those MOMO or Grant steering wheels, but i want to know if it is possible to do the swap, and how hard is it? Also, would i be to go back to the stock steering wheel and have a functional airbag in the future?

Be careful and disconect the battery before you disconect the air bag. One minor slip, and you could get a big boom!!! When I used to reposess cars, that was our biggest worry. Not the guy with the Gloc-9 telling you to go "whatever" yourself!

Car: 1990 IROC-Z (De-Badged-Carbon Hood)

Aaron,
I have a 1990 IROC-Z that I did this install
in. You would think that a steering wheel
install would be a piece of cake...but not
this...or maybe it was just my car? Taking
out the air bag is the easy part. Start by
disconnecting the battery. Then disconnect
any "yellow" wiring harnesses under the dash.
Do you have a GM service Manual? Get one...
it will show you what needs to be disconnected.
Since it is illegal to remove the air bag,
from our cars, car manufacturers do not have
specific items/hubs to work with our cars.
I had to trim about one inch of the plastic
piece from the steering column just for the
Momo hub to fit. Make sure to torque the
steering wheel nut to specifications. It
also wouldn't hurt to put some blue lok tite
on the threads. When you disconnect the
air bag, your air bag light will stay on.
I still have yet to figure how to turn this off. I have removed all wiring harnesses to
the light and it is still on! This was
really a pain in the *** that took two days
of my time. But at the end, I guess it looked ok:
If you have any problems, I nca try to help you out.
