stainless emblems for 3rd gens
Well I am tired of waiting for companies to offer stuff for 3rd gens that they offer for 4th gens. Specifically the emblems. I have been looking for stainless steel emblems to replace our crappy plastic ones, and have had no luck. So what I am going to do is spend some dough to have some produced. I am just wondering if anyone else would be interested. I am probably going to offer a kit including 4 emblems i.e.., one for each rocker panel, one for the rear bumper, and one for the dash. They will be cut out of 1/8" raw stainless steel (not polished) I am not sure about price, but hopefully I can get it around $75.00 for the kit. Does anyone else think this would be a good idea?

Id be interested on a set for a Z28...If they were $75 and looked good id buy them. Only thing is my dash emblem is a 25th anniversary. But id definently use the rockers and rear bumper emblems.

I got the first set. The only thing I didn't like about them was that the etching of letter outline wasn't that deep. So I am going to tape off the outside and paint the Z28 lettering body color (red).

Something with raised or depressed lettering would be really good, like the throttle body plates.
I thought about the ones with the lettering removed because you would see the paint through the opening. However, I was worried about getting them to stick to the car. On the ones I bought the piece has alot of surface for the double sided tape to grab which should really hold it on. By the way the emblems I bought come with the automotive double side tape already on.
I don't have any pics right now because I am going to be putting them on when I paint my car (hopefully in the spring). I will be taping around the letters, scuffing them and painting them red so they stand out more.

those are not the 3rd gen style lettering. The Z is wrong. I am talking about this
but in 3D, and our lettering only has 2 slashes through it, not 4. I am not going to settle just for what is available. I am putting the right design like what is suppose to be on ours.

The RS and Iroc-Z ones look good, the Z28...which id want are funky. Look at the 2 between Z28, the middle is messed up, where as factory looks a lot better, thats the only thing still stoping me.

The one you are talking about is the factory z28 emblem from 93-02 minus the "iroc-z" lettering. Quite the hodge-podge.

Well, the ball is in motion. They should be ready for me to pick up in less than 2 weeks. I chose to do the letters separate instead of connecting them at the bottom. I think with separate letters it will look way better and shouldnt be too hard for me to put on. I'll post a pic when I get them.

I found some pretty cool billet embelems on a website but I dont remeber what site it was on. One of them was pretty cool, it said "ROCKN-Z". I have a friend at school whose step dad has a machine shop and has a CNC machine and I am going to see if he can make me some Billet ones.

i'd buy a set if they came with the "Tuned Port Injection" emblem too, but i think it would look REALLY goofy with the regular emblem and the rest stainless

I pulled the TPI emblems off of mine so it would look cleaner, so that wont be an option for myself... It may be a possibility though... I still have to get a set of IROC and RS ones produced before I go into the other miscellaneous ones.

Those are exactly what I would want also, kind of like the throttle body plates we can buy. He had those custom made out of aluminum, right?

Ok so who makes these things?? I really need one that is "IROC-Z"
(maybe instead of a bowtie coming out the side I'd like a devil tail!)
See how naked the back of my car looks??

I am having them made by a metal fab shop. I got tired of not being able to find what I wanted. After the first batch is done, I am having some made for the IROC and the RS

I was just wondering if there was any update on the availability of these emblems. I am interested in a set and was also wondering what the asking price would be (ball park figure).

I went about a week ago to approve the proto type. There were a few things that I wanted changed and adjusted. I am being very picky on these because I want them perfect. Please be patient and bear with me because the final product is going to be very nice.
I decided to go with brushed stainless steel, 1/8" thick, and all the letters will be cut out separately so there is no goofy looking connecting piece at the bottom. I still have to contact 3M and getting some auto adhesive stripping to mount them. I am going to sell them for $20 ecah for the rockers, and $25 for the rear bumper one (including the bowtie). And I am going to use the rear bumper one also as the dash emblem. I will sell a whole set for $75.00 which will include both rockers, rear bumper, and one for the dash. I'll post pics as soon as I get them in.
As soon as they are finished I will go to work on the IROC and RS ones.

If you get the ones on ebay don't get the ones with the letters outlined because the etching isn 't very deep and doesn't stand out enough in my opinion. That is part of the reason that I want to buy these ones when xlr8torz28 starts selling them. I may even use both and put the separate letters on top of the ones I got off of ebay to make a 3-d type of emblem (paint the back black and the letters red or leave them stainless).

You can only see the letters at certain angles. They do make a version with the letters completely removed, so I would get those if you want the ones off of e-bay. I am going to wait for these.

There was an initial delay in the begining because I was being very picky about what I wanted. I want these emblems perfect. After seeing the prototype I had some other changes made, then their CAD guy quit. They just hired a new CAD guy and as soon as he makes the changes to the CAD file it will be loaded into the laser machine and start cutting. The coolest thing is that I am keeping the original 6x3 sheet of stainless the emblems are being cut out of, so I have to find something cool to do with that.... Please be patient with me because I didnt want them done sloppy and quick... Thanks for all the interest.

Here are some pics of the prototypes. KEEP IN MIND that these are prototypes and not the final product. These are only 1/2 of the thickness they will be and these have not been "cleaned up". And they will be a standard brushed finish stainless steel. You can polish if you want. I may have mine powder coated. I am deliberating lowering the price, I dont want to be greedy. I will have the final price figured out by this evening.
