Out of these two hoods which one flows the best with the 3rd gen lines

Ive been looking at aftermarket hoods for my thirdgen. Im wanting a hood that flows well with the lines of my car. Meaning not something that looks like it doesn't belong on the car but rather a hood that one could imagine being a OEM hood. With the hoods ive looked at i have picked two hoods that to me fit well but wanted to get a public opinion on which one fits the third gen scheme the best.

The first one is a fourth gen style ram air hood like the car in the picture. My car is somewhere close to the same color but not 100% I like this hood and think the lines flow well with the rest of the body but one thing bothers me and thats the fact that it's taken from a 4th gen SS. I really want my car to stay in it's generation when people look at it. So I wouldn't like it if the majority would say I have a nice third gen with a fourth gen hood.... know what I mean?

The second hood I found at Hawks and that is the Sunoco hood. http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...ROD&ProdID=122 I do understand that it was also inspired by the 4th gen but to me isn't so popular and frequently seen that people would automatically associate it with a 4th gen. I do like how the hood follows and compliments the 3rd gen lines but didn't know if the hood was too round for the car. Where Im going with that is that our cars are pretty angular with Sharpe corners, Im not truly sold on the roundness of the hood but also don't think the slight roundness to it makes it look odd for the car, I think it could work

So please let me know what you think and give me your opinion which of the two hoods you would pick for your car. Thanks

I thought at one point Hawks had it as the jongbloed hood (or the young blood hood) but then saw it as the sunoco hood so I didn't know which name to use. Cool so I got two for the young blood, It does look natural doesen't it. It follows every line, from the center line to the indents of the cowl on both the rs and iroc hoods.

I like the SS hood myself, i'd like to get that one as a possibility for my Trans Am if they make it. I think it'd fit better visually than the nostril look of the ram airs, but maybe it wouldn't hehe! Who knows!

I think the SS looks better than the sonoco. But the SS hood on a firebird... I don't know, doesn't really look like it'd mix well with the firebirds lights.

Re: Out of these two hoods which one flows the best with the 3rd gen lines

Yeah I did see that one but it looks higher than the camaro's for some reason, be nice to see it actually installed. A square opening might look a bit better, like on the old 80's Nissan 300ZX but all the way across and lower down the hood.

Although the curves match a little bit since the Firebird/TA is a bit curvey in it's own right. Can never really tell till you see one on hehe!

The Sunoco hood might match an IROC better.

I too think that the SS Hood looks great on a 91 92 Camaro..however, I would not choose it for an IROC

Dont like the Sunoco Hood...way to round for a thirdgen camaro! there I think the Cowl Induction Hood looks much better (and its chevy design)

Re: Out of these two hoods which one flows the best with the 3rd gen lines

One more for the "SS" hood. Although, I wouldn't consider it to be a fourth gen style. It was styled after the late second gen Z28 hood, after all. The late second gen, third gen and early fourth gen share very similar design traits, so it just "fits".

The rounded "hump" on the sunoco hood just doesn't blend with the style of the car IMHO.

Sunoco/Jongbloed gets my vote, but if Hawk's is simply reselling G&T's Jongbloed, renaming it Sunoco (Those are old Jongbloed hood pics, not new ones), I'd hesitate to question ifitis still available, unless G&T is trying to sell its stuff through retailers only now.

I always want a Jongbloed (the designers name..Bill Jongbloed, not young blood) for my GTA

.

With or without the vents?

Sunoco hood, imo.

Keeps with the lines of the front end better and makes more sense. To me the SS hood makes it look like you wish you had an SS, but could only afford a hood scoop from one.

It reminds me of a 4th gen car and I am tired of all the 4th gen cars, LOL, they are fast, but a dime a dozen and not very sexy, like an IROC is...again, jmo.

I have to agree with the 3" Cervini hood. I know it isn't one that you originally planned for but the lines on this hood follow the windshield and this cowl isn't one of those that just jumps straight up from the surface of the rest of the hood. The actual raised portion of the hood smoothly transitions into the cowl and a good angle.

But, if you are going to force an opinion out of me with the first two I would have to go with the non SS hood. I think the SS hood is far too popular and the other hood at least follows the front end of a thirdgen much better.

At first glance, I would have gone with the Sunoco hood, but after looking at it for a minute, it just doesn't look right. The curves on the hood clash with the boxier design of the rest of the car.

I must put my vote on the SS hood because it just seems to match up with the rest of the car on the boxiness factor.

None of them really look right except the Cervini and Harwood cowls.

ANd I dont like cowl hoods that much. But no one seems to be able to do anything unique and stylish that FITS THE CAR.

This is a cool hood I saw here on TGO. I'd pay big money for one, it looks great! But it was a custom one-off some guy made.

Ugh! That adds 2 extra lies on the hood, that don't even match the style of the stock lines.

That's why I think the Jongbloed is pretty much the best. It only enhances the lines of the stock creases, and raises the center section into a cowl-style.

Unfortunately, nobody makes a Jongbloed for Firebirds.

The cowl follows the lines of the 82-84 scoops, the 85-90 louvers, and the 91-92 blisters. WHat do you mean it doesnt follow stock lines?

The Jongbloed just makes it look like your car is pregnant. Way too rounded.

Look at the pic you posted...2 straight lines at angles, then 2 inner liners, that curve inwards.

Yes, the scoops, IROC louvers, and blisters curve, but they have different terrain themselves, so it isn't as obvious. That hood just looks like 2 new creases with curves. Still smooth, although raised, in between them.

The Jongbloed only raises the stock area, between the stock creases/lines, into a cowl induction-type hood.

Obviously we have different tastes. That's what is so great about customizing. We all don't hafta drive the same thing, or have "cookie-cutter" cars.

Infernal I have seen that hood before, I feel its not a 1-off but more of a custom job done with THAT scoop as I have stated I HAVE seen that hood in person, just dont remember on what??? If I find out or remember Ill let you know but YOU CAN BUY THAT SCOOP. It may be the owners 1-off design but not a 1-off design cowl.

I hate not providing proof but I have seen that scoop or hood before somewhere...

Ill keep looking.

That's the thing, it's NOTHING like a daytona IROC hood. I actually like those okay except for the really goofy bizarre shape of the sides of the cowl on those. It randomly juts out, then randomly tucks back in... It just looks strange.

If the sides of the cowl here were smooth it would look a lot better, IMO.

I like the SS Hood myself so much so it's on my 85 Z28 now! Since I have a 400 small block with a 750 carb it feeds air to the engine very well. The hood needed work to get it smooth before painting but I love the way it looks with the rest of the body lines. check out my photos at the garage - StreetShark85

I would go for the cowl induction hood-not the SS. SS hood looks awesome on 4-5th gens. erd gen body lines are rigid-the cowl induction flows with the rigid lines
-there it is

both hoods look great. Myself...I think that the SS hood looks best on the 91-92 cars....and and the jongblod hood looks best on the 85-90 cars. But...either hood isn't a bad choice..

i personally think the Sunoco/joengbloed hood is UGLY and doesnt fit the car at all.

I like the SS hood tho. that scoop fits most cars well
