Re: what do you think of this paint job?

just a quick update. sorry kinda boring pics. the painter has been busy with the jeep so it's been kinda slow. no biggy i'm sure it will be done before summer. all plans are still the same. and we did have a rep. from kirker paint come in and see the print outs of the paint job we're doing and ask if they could feature the car on there website when it's finished i'll post more pics as i get em. thanks for reading.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

hey thanks, ya i'm really excited to ....... and my wife said it's kinda mine when she's not driving..... so i'm like sswweeetttt lol lol it's gonna rock. the painter emailed me today and said he has some more ideas he wants to go over with me tonight when i go out there thats means more cool stuff to add lol we're keeping the original paintjob but this thing is evolving into a big project. now my wife and i are starting to think about the interior as well and maybe doing something a little diff then just redoing the stock interior to match...............its just fun........ and to think i was having second thoughts about refinancing my house and closing out my 401k to pay for all this ........ way worth the thrill lol lol lol

I'd go 4th gen interior if I were you. Those dashes and consoles can be had for pretty cheap these days.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

ya i just posted a question in the interior forum about the 4th gen interior on what it takes. those look tight and clean. i have'nt shown a picture to my wife yet of one but i think she might like it to. we're deffinetly going with orange and black inside thoa. i want the design on the side of the car on everthing inside as well the nitrous bottles, the seats, the amps. i dont want to go over kill but like a keep saying i want the wow factor. even if someone dont like it i should at least get an a+ for the effort thats goin into this thing.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

Totally your ride, but I don't know if I would go crazy with the orange inside. The outside of the car will already have way more orange than black, so a really kickass all black leather interior might be a nice complement to the exterior.

black would be the dominent color inside but probably have orange accents throughout as well. but who knows thats alittle down the road so i'm sure my thoughts will change by then.

Black leather interior with orange stiching & accents like the center of the seats as orange suede, Id say a burnt orange suede.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

agreed orange stitching. i'd like to have the design stitched into the seats lol when i get ready for the interior which will probably be next winter i'll really get into lookin at pics and talking to some uphostry shops. we where out there last night dropping off the hood scoop and he showed us the paint sweeeeett it's omoha orange, really close to the lamborghini orange minus the 1200$ price tag. it's as bright as the photo shoped pic on the first page of the thread. also put the scoop on to see how it was going to look. thats (imo) my beautiful wife and my ugly buttface next to her the hole still has to be cut bigger in the hood but that basically it.

just noticed you can see the jeep he stretched 3ft in the background.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

lol lol dont hold back tell me how you really feel lol lol lol lol i have to do something. the carb. is flush with the top of the hood. and a cowl hood still would'nt give me enough space for the air filter. with rpm intake on that 403 it just goes to high. that engine is a tight in there. it was either that or something like the funny car type hood scoop i had in the first post. well thanks for the opinion anyway good or bad i like to hear em

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

ive seen a dual cold air intake a pep boys that might fit. basically it puts your air cleaners on both sides of the radiator. also ive seen some really big cowl hoods that i believe would fit, imo your building a nice car and having something that looks out of place may ruin the new appearance.... however these are just my opinion and you may like it.

Are you sure about that? I have a Victor JR. which is taller than the RPM on mine with a spacer under the carb and it fits...air cleaner and all, also my hood is a 3" cowl

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

hey throw you're opinions out there. honestly i dont mind good or bad. you're guys opinions have helped me make some good decisions. and i enjoy hearing em. anyway i like the shorter cowl hoods but the 4inch and bigger i just dont care for. the hood is going to be all one color so if i dont like the way this one turns out i will just find one with a scoop i like and have it painted. my thoughts were with the chrome wheels, chrome hood pins, and a chrome scoop with the black design it would stick out and look good. we'll see ..... it's just money right lol lol this one is mine anyways so im sure i'll change things on it as i go. we're looking for a nice firebird for my wife. she likes those a little better then the camaros. so we will have his and hers .......... dont call me gay ..... i get her a toy i get to have a toy lol lol see it all works out lol
----------
what motor do you have in there. i have an olds 403 and its pretty tall. i could be wrong but it would be a pretty tight fit to get an air filter on there with the cowl hood. unless i went with one of those little heart shaped ones. this just seemed like the lease hassle and in the end it might look ok.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

sinister, what motor? i have an olds 403 with 1" under the carb. spacer and it's pretty tall and i'm adding nitrous adding another 1/2 inch. i could be wrong and maybe it would fit. the paint guy and i were looking at it and it did'nt look like it was going to work. so this seemed like the least hassle to me and i dont really care for the cowl hoods. i'd prbably have to use those little heart shaped filters on there and i dont like that look.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

I have a 383 SBC, I didn't know that you have an Olds motor until now...that could be a problem but you can get a low profile base for the air cleaner, I used to have one of those when I had the stock hood on the car.
I ran a similar air cleaner like these http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=sku

Are you planning to paint the engine bay? I think it would look sick black, especially with all the chrome you'll have going on...

Please !! Don't rice "the heartbeat of america" ! We see way too much cars like that! Start the engine, get out of the car close to the exhaust, close your eyes, smell the smoke. Then you're ready to do it right!

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

the engine bay is getting painted gloss black, and the motor is going to be painted orange and flat black. i'm pulling the motor this fall to do the paint in there. i'm also going through and freshening up the motor while i have it out. adding nitrous and custom headers and having the heads port matched and polished. as far as the "rice of america" thin lol if it looks to ricy i'll go back over it with a spray can and make it look hillbilly lol just wait and see it before passing judgment. it's going to rock wait to you see my wifes lol lol we're going all out on that one and wow does she have some crazy idea she wants to see on her firebird lol

i cant find em for 120$. i found em for 320$ but finding a used one is hard. the painter said when i do get one i can bring it back and he'll paint it for me. this fall/winter the car is going to be getting worked on again when i pull the motor ,so i plan on getting all the things like that taken care of then. i just want to get it done so i can drive it this summer.

Its great! but I rather advice you to do photoshop than painting, its more interesting. you can modify anything you want on the car, changing the tires, front views and rear views~

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

Here is my buddies 4th gen in orange / black. The car is now primer gray awaiting fresh paint most likely all black or tangelo. This car was originally polo green metallic! Anyhow. I like the color you've chosen but I find tears or tribals on the side of a car look dated and also if not thought out well enough look gawdy. I would suggest trying to make the hood stripes flow down the fenders and fade into previous mentioned design. Similiar to the 70's mustangs. Otherwise the car will look too busy.

P.S. Are you planning on painting the jambs, underhatch, and engine bay? If so what color? Black would be cheapest and you could do it yourself. Just an idea. I know you will end up opening your hood at some point at a show or what not.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

hey guys thanks for the thoughts. i am getting the jams and under hood painted orange to match. and the engine bay will be black. and on the hood i dont think we're going to put anything since it's going to have the carb. bonnet sticking out. we thought it might look to buisy as well. this paint job is starting to scare me though... it's been 2 months and not much progress. the painter has had some big projects in font of mine and now he has to move out of his space and into a new building by next month...... so i'm starting to worry. not talking bad about the guy. i'm sure he'll do it right, it's just my wife and i had plans of things we wanted done by now that we have to do when we get it back and it's all getting pushed back now............ we'll see i guess.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

You will want a darker shade of orange to add the "muscle" look or scare factor. A darker shade of the new camaro orange may be just what u are looking for.

Looking good 89 makes me miss my SMO 91 z28. Progress is coming along nicely, are you gonna paint your headlight buckets black or leave them orange? Also what type of grill are you gonna use?

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

not sure on the headlight buckets. the grille, i want to get the steel mesh i'v seen on some camaro's. i think that looks sharp and it would match the chrome scoop.... kinda.

Re: still waiting :(

Leave that weirdo carb-hat crap off... hell, run the car without a hood if you have to!

Olds 403 or not, your car will NOT be received well with that retarded chrome E.T. head poking through the hood. That I can promise you. Get a 4" cowl hood and live with it. You opted for the Olds motor as a trade-off I am sure, well here is the difference maker. Look like a r3dneck r!cer or make the compromise.

Re: what do you think of this paint job?

thanks for the inspiring words motorheadmike i think I'll leave it on as i kinda like it. the guy at the stop light might not like it but well............ he has is own car. i figure if my wife and are happy with it then thats enough. who cares if I'm received by the camaro gods ........... if thats ok thats ok with you, wouldn't want to get you fired up or anything................

to everyone els thanks a ton for the constructive input. motorheadmike has left the first comment on this entire thread that i actually think is cr ap. i think he really got mad that i have the "weirdo carb-hat crap" on my car. i dont think he's ever heard of "to each his own" anyway i'll post pics of my "weirdo carb-hat crap" car in a few weeks .... hopefully.
