Paint code question

I am sorry for posting this if my question is answered in another thread burried somewhere, but I have been searching for a couple hours and am getting a wicked headache from all of the reading. I've got a '84 Z28 with the charcoal or gunmetal gray color paint. After pulling the interior out of the car I saw my floor pans were in good shape and got a taste of what the color really looked like to begin with, and truthfully i think I like it better than my traditional black. My problem is I don't know what this color is technically. I would like to be able to match what I see on the floor boards, and know it is a factory color, I just don't know what it is. All of the tags that might tell me are so faded or worn they are not ledgible. I would just like to know what GM actually called this color (I am imagining a graphite metallic or something similar), and what color I might be able to get from an auto paint supplier that would match. I have bothe Dupont, and House of Kolor available locally so if there are any parts guys that might know I'd appreciate it. If not, just the factory name and RPO code would be great. I'm sorry I don't have a good pic of the body (the paint is so old and worn it just looks like primer), but I've got a few shots of the floor boards that might help. Thanks a lot for the help guys, and again I appologize if this was answered somewhere else and I missed it.

Re: Paint code question

The paint shop should be able to decode that for you. Someone here might know as well but they have paint chips for every car. They should also have a scanner. Between the 2 you are sure to get the proper code.

Re: Paint code question

You have an 84, so I assume you don't have the crowl tag mounted in front of the radiator. If your car has one, the paint code will be on the second line, xxL for the lower body paint and xxU for the upper body. Note that for Camaros, the Upper and Lower body paint codes are the same number.

If you don't have the crowl tag take a look at this camaro web site, as they list paint colors with the codes......

http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...trim&year=1983

From that site it looks like you have Charcoal Metallic, code 82

Good luck on getting the car painted the color you want.

Re: Paint code question

Actualy I think I do have the tag you are talking about, it's a bit mangled but I might be able to make it out now that I know what to look for. Thanks for you help Dave.

Ryan

Glad to offer some good advice. Note that you can search in the History section using " crowl tag" and you should find a number of threads, some with photos. Hopefully you will be able to decode yours and get the paint numbers.
