Third gens are sexy. The only Fbody that looks better than 3rd gens are 67-73 Camaro's, third would have to be the 98-02 Trans Am's. To quote a buddy of mine. An LS1 camaro looks like it could kick your ***. An LS1 Trans Am looks like it is coming over to do it.

Had to vote 82-84 Thirdgens, Especially the ones with no ground effects at all. Although the 82-84 ground effects look horrid as well. Not a fan at all of them

After them the only ones uglier are the 98-02 Camaros, then the mid-late 2nd gens.

We basically had this discussion in another thread, but it's nice having a poll to see the numbers.

Anyway, here's my thoughts(only regarding Camaros, because I haven't done nearly as much the research on Firebirds) Ugliest f-body is the 74-77. Ugliest Camaro is the 5th gen. Regardless, I voted 5th gen because it disgraces all that I like about Camaros(long and sleek instead of short and chunky)

I don't believe there should be two separate categories for 85-90 and 91-92 while you classified 74-81 in 1 category. The differences between 85-92 are minimal compared to 74-77 and 78-81. I absolutely hate the 74-77 aluminum bumpers, but I like the 78-81 much much better. I will also say the same thing about 67-69 Camaros. I hate the 67-68 while I like the 69. Some might not consider 67-68s and 69s that much different, but a complete redesign is a huge difference to me.

So I believe, if you're gonna separate 85-90 and 91-92 you should also separate 67-68 and 69, 74-77 and 78-81. Some might even argue having 74 Camaros in their own category too because in '75, they changed the rear quarter/glass. Which is a huge difference compared to a redesign of little bits of rubber and plastic moldings to dress up a car. No offense intended, just pointing something out.

And the main reason I don't like the 5th gen. 1. It's not an f-body. F-bodies have a different feel to them, something that was lost with the new platform. 2. The new Camaro is basically a much more sporty looking redesign of the Pontiac G8 to have similar features of the 1st gen Camaro. 3. I like my cars like I like my women, lol. Long and lean instead of short and chubby. I guess this ties in with my first point though. I liked the f-body wheel based much better too.

Final thing I have to say: I wonder how much money GM would have made if they remade the 69 Camaro for 2010. Of course and updated interior, safety and suspension would be mandatory. Why make a bloated version of the car everybody wants? Why not give them the car they want(Don't say the car is bloated because of safety, because that's bullshit reason I've heard in the other post. There are plenty of new cars being made that are much smaller than the Camaro, that probably have better safety features(Maybe not against Semis and tanks though but still)

I agree the 4th generation are the ugliest. Now I dont think any firebird is ugly I would GLADLY take a 4th gen. I think 4th gen is the worst looking but they're the most badass power wise. My absolute favorite firebird is a second generation formula. I never liked the 2nd gen trans ams(again wouldn't complain about having one)

but come on 3rd gen just look badass Theres my 89 formula at autocross.

That's what they did. Retro body with modern safety, suspension, etc. It IS so heavy because of all the airbags, cruple zones, and other crap needed to get a high rating. Why does the Honda Accord weigh 3600 lbs? That is 1600 lbs more than the original. The current Civic is 1300 lbs heavier than the original. Same with the Camaro. People won't buy a flyweight car with 3 stars. Well, not enough people....

i hated 4th gens but now i have one.

the LS1 front ends do look like catfish, but now theres a bumper that doesn't make it look so much, it looks more aggressive.

the interior is nicer on the inside IMO. the door panels are more solid, the extra space in the side trunk panel is nice as well. plus the cupholders are pretty sweet

at a first glance many cars don't look that good, but if you take the time to look into them more, they really aren't so bad.

For me, its the later 2nd gens, and some of the early thirdgens. They just lack that performance element. A Firebird SE for example with the chrome accents is ugly.

Though I think most of the Thirdgen hate comes from the fact that they were pretty lack luster power wise. And there were far too many options. Most people have not run into a top model thirdgen so when they were in production most of them were slow.

Thats a photoshopped Alfa Romeo 8C, it was never a camaro concept, just something an average joe did with photoshop.

IROC Z is pleasing to the eye because the body propotions are so right.

Flaring RAM AIR nostrils makes LS1 Trans Am outright mean.

Most other F bodies are nice, but are distant runners up in this beauty contest.

74-77 Camaro? Crush them.

3rd Gen. Camaro's, especially the late 80's IROC-Z's and early 90's Camaro Z28's are beautiful cars.

No they made a modern looking retro body. I mean what if they made the 2010 Camaro's exterior EXACTLY like the 69's. Only with the added safety and comfort features.

I agree that the new Camaro would obviously weigh more with extra features, but it doesn't have to look like it weighs more. The designers purposely designed the 2010 Camaro to be big and bulky, not because of safety features, but because that's apparently the new standard. They widened the wheel base, made the bumpers shorter, made the roofline taller, made the doors and side taller so the car didn't look jacked up. If I'm sitting in my 4th gen at stock ride height and a 2010 Camaro pulls up, why do I have to look up to see in the window? My point was that so many people desired a 1969 Camaro, so would they have made more profit if they gave them that instead? Please don't argue that the Camaro is that size because of safety reasons, the GTO wasn't even that big, and the Corvette isn't that big(or the mustang for that matter)

On page 3, I post 2 pictures. One that compares the size differences between the two Camaros, check it out. The scale of both the cars should be somewhat close. I looked at actual figures and estimated the scale. The other picture was a photoshop of the 2010 that I believe stays true to the Camaros of the past. Basically what the 2010 would look like if it was an f-body. Wheelbase, height, length would all be pretty accurate. The picture may not be the best representation it's good enough to get an idea.

No f-body, no care No offense meant, just arguing my point.

I actually really like the 3rd gens. Also the earlier thirdgens look great to my opinion.

The problem with the F-bodies is that there seems to be no consistency in which if the two I like during any particular period the thirdgens were on offer, which GM effectively solved by ejecting the Pontiac brand.

I'm not all that fond of the first gen. Most people do not understand this, neither do I but I just have no personal attachment to the first generation F-bodies.

Then the 2nd gen comes in 1970 and I really like the 1970-1973 Camaros. Not that sold on the early 2nd gen Firebirds. The 1974 and 1977 and 1978 Firebirds again look great.

I liked the thirdgens from the start. They look completely different from the earlier generations. They look flat, wide and for lack of a better word fulfilling their purpose (even though, due to a lack of engine power they do not quite fulfill the expectations the looks provide, which, if desired can be changed with little effort however, so that's not a dealbreaking issue)

I do prefer the early camaros over the firebirds, but from 1986 onwards (the new ground effects for the GTA for me make the thirdgen firebirds to the best looking F-bodies built)

The early fourth gens look as if no one knew what they wanted to do from there on which is a bit of a shame really.

i'm one of the few that do, i would choose a 1970 camaro over a 69 any day of the week.

yes the first gens are nice, but its just something i can look at at a car show and then move on.

93-97 is the ugliest to me.. camaro or firebird.. 74-76 was ugly for both but 77-78 trans ams are gorgeous, but i wish they would have used the small rear window (70-73)on all the 2nd gens.. but 67-69 camaro is perfect but the firebird was hidious to me

MY FAVORITE=70-73 split bumper or formula.. my dad has a 71 formula in progress with a 455 (478 now) and i can just stare at it all day + bb pontiac motors are nasty especially in those cars .. in my opinion they have the most potential of any car

1969 is my favorite year (year I was born) but they are everywhere and at every car show plus they win every award for the last 15+ years I have been attending car shows.

My 3rd gen was the only 3rd gen f-body at the Rudy's Car show this past year with I believe over 200 cars.

Got many compliments on how clean mine was and people wished there were more of these on the road.

The tail lights make all the difference. Just like the 65 Impala. They had three individual tail lights, but in 66 they had to f them up by changing them.

none are as pretty as the early 2nd generation camaros, granted to me, those were the ugliest firebirds, but the pretties camaros. the coolest firebird hands down are the thirdgens...

the ugliest to me are the 90-97 4th gens, when they put the ls1 and beefed up the looked they looked better...

i really think if everyone spend more time around each one, it would grow on them. take the time to walk around one, look at everything, sit in it, drive it.

the first camaro i consciously recognized was a black 81. yes, i thought it was awesome.
at first, i thought 3rd gens looked terrible. (ended up being my first car)
then i thought 4th gens looked terrible. (i now have one)

i saw 70-73 split bumpers, then disowned the idea of a later 2nd gen. though dare i say it, if i was around one more, i think i would appreciate it.

I don't really like the big bumper cars, but I'd take a nice one of it was a good price.

I think the early 4th gens are OK, just barely, because they still kept a lot of the style cues from the 3rd gens, except they made the whole car look like it melted in the oven for a while. All the corners and edges have been blended away

The 4th gen camaro is just not that great. It lost all it's style after 1992. The firebirds did too, but only untill 1998. The last run of the 4th gen Firebirds were sweet, with the dual pop up lights, and the 4 nostrils..

I agree! The Caprice SS had the thin horizontal chrome lines that made a slight improvement for the 66's though.

I would have to say my least favorite was the 74-77 Camaros. When they came out with the plastic bumpers in 78(thru 81) that was an improvement(i did own a 78 Camaro at one time). Other then that i would say I love all the rest. For me it was about the evolution of these cars that made me want them more and more. Both F-bodies used round lights until the Firebirds went to 4 rectangular lights in 77. Then in 82 the Camaro gets the 4 lights and the Firebirds switch to hideaways(sign of the times compared with other cars). These lasted till 92 and endured longer then any other car through the 80s to early 90's. Well except the Fox platform(Mustangs) by Ford which lasted longer but stayed ugly IMO.
The 91-92 Firebirds were the best with the new bumpers and blew me away at the first sight of one. Then the 4th gens evolved keeping the light set ups but making the cars more rounded and sleeker to complete with the competitors(Supra, Talons/Eclipes,300ZX, Stealths,Probes). I thought the 4th gen got better looking as time went on(love those Ram Air T/As in 98-02)
The 5th gen is nice but honestly I wouldn't go out and buy one. Like Jimmy said earlier, too short and chunky looking for my tastes. I like low, long and sleek. The retro styling cues doesn't do anything for me. Why go backwards when you should go forwards. Although this is excused by most since the 8 year gap between generations was allowed and most were happy to see a Camaro finally return. Will the 6th gen Camaro have cues from a 2nd gen in the next 5-10 years. It breaks the continuity of the lines of the cars over the years.

The 1st and 3rd gen bodies are definitely the best looking, IMO. Next best looking are the 2nd gen bodies. I like some of the 2nd gen Firebird/TAs better than the Camaros. The 5th gen cars look interesting to me in some trim packages but only because they remind me of the 1st gen styling. Lastly comes the 4th gen car. They may be great driving cars but that body style does nothing for me. They pale in comparison to the 1st and 3rd gen as far as looks go.

1. 85-90 Camaro/70-73 Split Bumper
2. 91-92 Camaro
3. 67-69 Camaro/Firebird
4. 91-92 Firebird
5. 98-02 Firebird
6. 93-97 Firebird
7. 85-90 Firebird
8. 93-02 Camaro unless its an SLP SS in which that's tied for 3rd.

If you didn't notice I didn't mention the 2010+ Camaro as it's a Zeta Body. I good looking car none the less.

Wow didn't know so many pros can have so much hate for there brothers and sisters. LoL but I always say we that grew up in the 70's as a kid and a teen in the oh so great 80's have the best of both worlds. I don't hate any of them no do I hate the other cars say like a GN or stang, I love the look of a IROC with that big F-40 looking spoiler and the 3gen ta's were just to pointing looking now the 98 to 02 ta is just a badass looking car and my dream car is a 70 ta and so I bought a 70 ta, 73 formula 76 ta 80ta 81ta and a 91 gta. And would love to get a 85 ta and a 98 to 02 ta and a IROC-Z so going to have to say the 74 to 77 camaro are the ones I hate most. This was a very tough thing to do. But im sure if sombody drove by with a 74 slammed down on some 18's with a sweet *** paint job I would be all over it.

Oh I some times wonder if I would be a camaro person cuz back in 85 I wanted a.new trans am but could not afford one so I bought a 78 z-28 and then it was stolen from school parking lot so I then bought a 80 pace car and then it snowballed. I bought the 91GTA in 92 used with 6000 miles and I was king $hit back then but man did I have fun with that car.

I don't hate the looks of any of them, I just like the 1st and 3rd gens the best. I think the 3rd gen Firebirds had the best exterior styling but their interiors were way too busy for my taste. I like the Camaro interiors more.

I have seen a few really nice looking 4th gens, I just don't think they have much of a muscle look. 1st come on> HOT, I have always been in love with the 3rd, my first camaro was my iroc. I have seen alot of 5th Gens looking pretty nice! Color matters!
