thanks, too bad it's gone. that truck was amazing. cummins 12v/5spd and a gm 14 bolt. would pull a house. got hit by a meth-head that ran a stop light and diamond the frame. i was bummed to find out it was totaled after we put so much work in it. we could have fixed it, but my heart was no longer in it after that, and i let it go

2000 silverado 2wd 1500. 5.3/4l60e. it's a great truck. i bought it was 74k on it 2 years ago (it was an old mans truck, and he didn't drive it much). it does not tow like my dodge did though. that thing would move anything. i drive this truck everywhere though. i have 108k on it now, so 34k in two years. about to put another 2k on it, going to my inlaws in maryland for christmas. here's a picture from when i first brought it home, before i did anything to it.
only things i've done to it:
2" drop shackle in the back
3" i-pipe with magnaflow muffler
ebay CAI
firestone destination a/t's
monroe load adjusting coilover helper shocks. i'm going to replace these with some regular shocks and some firestone airbags though, they're squeeky and don't really do much.
i intend to keep this truck a long time. i'd like to do either a magnacharger on the 5.3 or a 6.0 with a towing cam and a tune, with a 4l80e.

Re: best non fbody that compliments your thirdgen
Besides the US cars I love Alfa Romeos. The below one is my street racer. Alfa Romeo 75 (in the states called "milano") with a tuned 3.0 V6 engine and only 1100kg of weight. Short 4.10:1 Axle and Gears of a 2l car. As fast as my GTA. In corners a lot faster because of the better suspension and weight. It's a transaxle car so the gearbox is on the rear end combined with the Diff. Makes a really great weight distribution.
I love to drive it and with the megasquirt in it it's really powerful.
For familiy usage I had a Chrysler Voyager till i bought me a Dodge Nitro. It was highly tweaked, got a modified 3,3l engine (modified heads and higher comp.)
Better trans and lots of suspension work (dropped it 6cm, but sadly never made pics of it), doubled the sway bar. We drove it since 1993. great car... still have it but not used anymore..
Since 3 years I'm driving a Dodge Nitro with the 2.8l CRD Diesel engine. It's totally reliable. Never had an issue since I bought it. The 4cyl. Diese engine is unbeatable. almost 500nm and over 220Ps with the chip and only consumes 9.5l per 100km :-)
And here my GTA:
Completly stock with digital dashboard and the 350ci engine. Magnaflow exhaust is a must. ;-)

Re: best non fbody that compliments your thirdgen
Wow, I had completely forgotten about this thread. It's been awhile since I made my post, and I've changed up the two steeds involved since then. My 3rd Gen is now an '88 GTA that I've done quite a bit of upgrades to, and my complimentary vehicle has morphed into another suburban, this time an '86 3/4 ton with a 454. I'm in the midst of quite a bit of work on it at the moment as well. It's got 69k original miles, and is one of the better kept examples of these that I have ever seen, especially for this part of the world.
And of course, the required 3rd gen shot. My GTA at Padre Island last week:

Re: best non fbody that compliments your thirdgen
I've been working on it, but they're hard to find for a reasonable price. Then you have to buy 32 lug nuts to put them on, haha. The rims are 17x8.5" off of a Hummer H2 with 255/75/17 tires off of a newer Jeep Wrangler. I have the H2 center caps for them, but I think that would look weird. I'm bidding on a set of chevrolet 8-lug caps off of the new 17" wheels. Hopefully I can get some for a decent price. We'll see.
