wheels?

ok I just got a 89 Formula 350, it has the deep dish 16x8 wheels with it. they are kinda ratty looking an need to be cleaned up. they have what looks liek bubbles? int he finish though. canI jsut polish those right up or do I ahve to take the coating off, should I just try using some wheel cleaner first? the front wheels have almost a brownish color to them while the back ones still lok like bright alum. I dont get it. thanks for any suggestions

It's brake dust. You probably have rear drums which is why the rear wheels appear cleaner than the front. Even if they're discs, the fronts always get dirtier because they do most of the work stopping the car. You might be able to clean them up, but sometimes the clearcoat develops tiny pits and cracks which accumulate the brake dust and "stains" the wheels to the point that cleaning alone won't bring them back to their full majesty.
