hatch set back too far ?

my hatch is set back farther than the QP ends by about 1/4" or maybe more.

is this stock factory setting ?

what gap should be at the top forward end of the hatch glass frame back to the car roof skin back edge ? ive got 1/2" gap up there at center of the car, and also th hatch is sunk down farther than the top edge of the QP's, liek its shut way too far down too hard

this factory or what ?
its even on both sides at least

thanks

No, it's not factory.

The deckplate should be flush with the rest of the car, and so should the spoiler. If it's back too far, then somebody didn't tighten the hatch screws enough, either the ones on the main hinges or the ones holding the deckplate in place, and as a result the gas canisters pushed the deckplate back too far.

So to fix it, you'll have to pull the gas canisters off first, loosen up the screws and guesstimate where it should be, then re-tighten them and make sure that your estimate was on-target, and finally re-attach the gas canisters (this is achieved by lifting the hatch up to almost maximum height so that you don't have to compress the canisters).

It may take two or three tries to get it right, since there's no real accurate way of judging the distance.

the glass was busted out in the past i know, i been vacuuming out alot of busted hatch glass after rtemoving all of the interior carpeting and plastics and dampening pads and insulation, i plan on having no rear seats and just carpeting the entire car from the front seats back to the end of the car and removing nay brackets and spare wheel metal that there is that im gonna cover with carpeting

i need to find some thin navy blue material of some kind that wil stretch and form around curves and such

i have no idea what though,.......

pics of any full carpeted 82-92 F bodies ? with no plastics and no rear seats ?

i just got done oiling all door hinges and latches and rubber and finished removing all the original interior junk, everything is either horribly faded and/or dryrotted, busted, missing, there really isnt anything thats reusable in the car, that includes console, dashpad steering wheel, all seats, interior sail panels, interior QP panels, everything, all cept pass side door panel and armrest, they are the only items in the car that are any good cept the instrument panel parts,. but even some of those plastics have some busted off tabs and such

the car will never have much interior parts, its 82 and you cant get much of anything for interior of them so im gonna cover anything i can with carpeting

unless......

i was able to find some kinf of ABS adhesive and some dark blue coloring, and some molding equipement and plastic stock

but good luck in this world, if all that was possible then we would all have our cars fixed in no time

these cars will never be original factory untouched nice shape, only a select few garage babied ones will be so nice

and not many ppl will ever get to witness any such thing, i probably never will, ive seen close, but not close enough,

thanks

So you want to completely remove all palstics and carpet everything because you can't find any parts for your 82? Any 82-88 F-body panels will fit your car without a problem. You could most likely get a set for cheap, hell i have an almost full set of 89-92 gray plastics that i can't even give away. You could feasably completely restore your interior for about $1k. All interior panels from a junkyard will set you back about $100 maybe with the console and such. New Carpet - $240 shipped, New Headliner, sunvisors, sail panels - $330, some decent seats - $200 - $300.

Anyway to answer your original question; You can adjust how far down the hatch is pulled by removing your rear trim panel, loosening 3 10mm bolts, pulling up on the latch and tightening them again. Also, if you can't align the back of the decklid with the end of the qp's by adjusting the hatch at the body mounts you can remove the decklid and move it that way. I beleive there is a tutorial on this site for it.

cant afford 100 dollars to buy a bunch of plastic with

no way,

i have hard enough time coming up with two dollars to go buy a 2 liter of soda each with so i can survive for now still, its been two years of no employment, the layoffs and slow down killed off jobs around here, i used to have all kinds and a great union and insurance benfits job at a local plant near here and well all those days are long over now,

theres no way i could or would spend a grand on a car when im 10 grand in debt at this point in life and no way to get out of it in any foreseeable future and its gonna get worse and worse, it'll probably hit 20 grand in a couple more years and i cant do anything about it still.

i have to do something for interior for the car that is free or damn near it, same with anything else i gotta do for the car.
i figure ill find some kind of dark blue material to put in the car somewhere eventually, somehow,
removnig brackets for rear seats and such is free, so thats all good

removign rust and welding in patches is bsically free since i have access to a garage with welder and all,
windshield i dont know how im gonna get replaced for next ot nothing cost, that will be interesting,

then getting plates and doing the title transfer thats 25 and 65 and 78 to do all that, thats a ton of damn cash nowadays, insane,.,,! will take me a damn long time to come across that kind of dough now, i wont be eating for even longer, i dont think i can lose anymore weight and weigh less than the 140 i am now without anymore health problems ?
dunno,
down to 13 teeth now, got stomach pains, sometimes a chest pain, my back and neck i cant turn since monday they hurt too much to move alot,.

so i dunno,

but anyways i adjusted the latch yesterday and today again,
got it set just right, and ive got the glass shoved as far forward as it can go, ive noticed that the hatch tail deck top panel is back too far on driver side, they set it crooked when replacing the glass and i think its bonded to the glass with sealer so its too late to set it straight now no matter how much i loosen the 13mm bolts that clamp the deck panel to the glass

the hatch tail is screwed and stuck crooked forever unless i was to tear it off the glass and buy new sealer and rest it all straight,

i cant afford that, so its gonna have to work til i can fix it or just put a unmolested hatch on it

for now i cant do engine lifting and crap like i used to do back in the day when i had energy and could lift without stomach and bacl hurting, this hatch stuff and interior stuff i can do carefully as long as i dont move my neck too much

thanks for the info

What's the field you work in? I'm a comp sci student right now, and I'm having some money problems myself (no financial aid... and I want a loan like I want a hole in the head... I'm also waiting for a prospective employer -- a school district -- to sort out their budget) so maybe I can offer some tips on getting jobs, I dunno...

my field is poor broke bum, my skills are only to do with vehicles, and i can assemble puters too, and run an oxy acetylen torch,

i cant do much more, i cant drive nails they bend ove ron me so carpentry related is not for me, electrical i could get into, but no way to get into it in central IL

i can drive, ive got a clean record ever since i got my license when w as 16, no issues at all, i could get my CDL pretty easily im sure,

my problme is that live in central IL, theres nothng here for younger persons unless oyu are retirement age or are a farmer, all there are here are retirement farming communities, im in the largest town around here its 15k, that 10+ times larger than any other towns around here, most of them are only a few hundred in population, alot or way less than that, this area is holding us back from being anything, getting ahead, nothing is here for younger ppl, if i had a chance opportunity to get the hell out of here then id be gone in an instant and id never look back, ever, id say good riddance!

'

thanks

good luck with your schooling
