Sorry i haven't replied in a while. I've been super busy. To first answer some questions, the most prominant one was taht my car wasn't built just by me. It was, i have a spreqadsheet of everything that has been in installed or bought. Everything. If it wasn't so large, i would post it. It cost me $14,973. The alternator is a Powermaster 140 amp alternator. The pulley's are March underdirves, i got them for christmas 2 years ago. The seats are Euro Lights, and i got the pair on eBay for 175 dollars plus 125 to ship.

If i missed any other questions, post them again.

I knew I wasn't that disconnected. 7k from dad was a good start for this project. The other 7k?? I dunno but Jack must've been working part time from the age of 13. Regardless, the car looks excellent. I wish my engine looked that good.

The way I look at it, he has a Camaro , it could have been a mustang , but IMO he should have done a Formula ... Ok I am biased ...

Hey! where and how he got the money is none of my concern, nor anyone elses for that matter. My first car was purchased by my father, and I still have it. Without his investment I would have never gotten into cars at all... I think I am better off all the way around ..

Jack thats awesome, i have so much respect for you... Unfortunately the voted 'coolest' car my graduating year (2004) was owned by the rich bastard whos daddy just payed for everything (although he had good taste it was a 2000 z28) and my car just didnt stack up on my grocery store wages... thats not to say i didnt put every second of my time into my 3rd gen in highschool.... sorry reminiscing... the absolute coolest thing about that car is that you built it and its all yours good for you man keep 'hot rodding' alive now go take that beast out and show the kids in the new cars what a real car is made of

Hey, Guy's

I'm just a Freshman, and my dad bought my sweet 90 RS for me, for my 15th birthday. I work for my Dad, he does'nt pay me in a paycheck but keeps track of the time I work. Then I have a list off mods that I want done, and when He says I have enough time in he lets me get the mod. So I do pay for my own toys to. This is my first car, and for it to be a thirdgen is sweet. That is one sweet Maro Jack_Sparrow. My dad is teaching me alot about cars, and I plan on doing most of the work on my RS, along with my dad. Third Gen's Rule

$15,000 is a lot of money. How much was it to get the actual car? My car was $850 and I spent maybe $1500 in mods and did all the work with my buddy and his dad. If I had another $12,000 to work with my car would be scrumptrulescent just like yours.

I paid for my car. I paid for the repairs, insurance, mods, and restoration. I have little to no respect to those kids at my old high school that got their cars from their parents (which there were a LOT of), so Jack Sparrow, and everyone else who did everything for their car themselves, hats off to you. We all put a lot of time, money, and heart into our cars, and we can have something those spoiled kids don't have...pride. Keep up the good work guys.

It cost $1000 for both cars, so $500 a pop. I would definantly have to say that my car is on top at my school. I am actually starting a car club at the school as we speak. Hey Z28 crossfire and everyone else take your time sanding! I did 2 straight weeks of 10 hr days sanding to get it to look this way. Just a heads up.

LOL if i had had 15000 to spend on my car... i dont think i would have put any money into it cosmetically...
hehehe twin turbo 496 would definetely be the way i would go with that one... i never put a dime into how it looked b/c the interior and paint was in great shape when i bought it so everything was suspension and engine work....but its all gone now...

that is one impressive car you got there and the fact you built it must give you all kinds of pride. I remember when I was in highschool, I had an 86 gunmetal gray sc with t tops and everyone loved that car even though it was only a 2.8 under the hood. . I love your paint scheme although I would have blacked out the headlight pockets as well but it still looks great as it is.

just out of curiousity, what did you spend on having someone paint that, or did you paint it? cause i don't have the equipment to lift the engine and everything so i can't do the paint myself, but i can atleast sand the outside and get the rust out, but just curious on what it cost ya

Cars looks great man, i really hope you have sub frame connectors. If not, after having a little fun you will end up with cracks on the roof in the top rear corner. Protect your investment.

oh no man, i don't need a new engine, i mean just to lift it outta there to get the semi-rust that's starting, i don't want the support for the front tires to just give out right as i'm goin down the road, that's why i was just curious if you did that part yourself

Having the foresight to finish a project like this, no matter who helped you pay for it, earns respect. Sounds like you had a similar deal to what I went through back in high school when these third gens were still pretty new... parents match what you put in (or close to it). Of course mine was a '77 T.A. with a 455, but that's another story.

When I was working at Pizza Hut making 8 bucks an hour (good money in 1986-7) on average for deliveries, all I could think about was how much I could save for the car restoration and not spend on anything else, just so Dad would double what I had saved!!! Talk about motivation to stretch the all mighty dollar!!! <--- very important life lesson I still use today. I went so far as to get a 76 Chevette for deliveries in order to save on gas and insurance and to be able to take my time to do the restomod right.

Congrats!!!

Right now I'm in the process of biulding sub frame connectors from 2"*3" 93 thousandths steel box tubing. Teh engine itself in the condition it is is probably worth about 5-6 grand, but if i had my way, i would have centrifigal supercharged it. But, since i didn't pay for it myself and my dad bought it for me, so i have to follow his rules, no power adders. The place sprayed the car for me for $550, but they even let me help. This was a professional shop in Boulder, colorado called European Auto body. ya i know, the name isn't what you would expect. Obviously they cut me a heck of a deal, but once again, that's cuz he liked me. It was a 2 thousand dollar paint job, they sprayed it and baked it. I had the car back at my house the day i dropped it off. The parts took about a week. Yes, i sparyed it seperately and it made all the difference.

Keep em comign guys,

Brett

I think the car looks awesome. What color yellow is that? It kind of reminds me of a Yellow Z28 that was around here awhile ago with the huge 4" cowl hood and black racing stripes. The only thing I would suggest it to paint the headlight pockets black to match the hood. I think it would set off the front of the car and brak up the yellow a little bit.

Nice work on your car by the way. I usually don't like yellow third-gens. But you just changed my mind.

Yeeeeeah!

Hey Guys, Im just now reading all this hype about High Schoolers. I honestly thought I was the only one who drove his thirdgen everyday to school, and pump the thirsty sucker full of gas every week. I love my car though, and couldnt be happier with it.It feels good to know that Im not the only 16 year old who gets evil looks from every soccer mom in the neighborhood about my ud" car. Whoever said Hedman Headers into 3-inch custom Flowmaster's on a typicaly Chevy 350 was loud? Ive been working my butt off over the summer and by this year's spring break I should be able to afford a sweet paintjob. I was thinking about the orignial maroon, with two black racing stripes. As well as the high-rise spoiler, which I've admired forever. Im kind of worried about the amount of work involved in the transformation, anyone know about that? Well thanks guys, check out my pics.

It's not the paint it's a reflection of some bushes and a berm on the other side.

Glad to see some of you in high school are doing the third-gen thing! I thought most of you guys were into the foreign **** cars.
I graduated in '86 so there weren't too many in our parking lot. And those that were mom and dad paid for them. I didn't get my first third-gen 'til '91 and yes I went back and cruised the Friday night football games! Ahhhh good times!

At my high school here in Miami all you see in the parking lot is r i c e r s . The Camaro gets a lot of looks.

Hopefully after I graduate I'll become a police officer. This way I can drive my patrol car home and park the Camaro in a garage and work on it all the time. Oh yeah, and to protect and serve and all that stuff too...

Great looking car man... good enough looking that my fiancee walked by and said.. "Damn, that camaro is sick." Im extremely jealous though... my parents refused to do anything for my car till i graduated, and then they just payed for my 350 swap... about 1200 bucks. (granted, thats way better than a lot of peoples parents!!) other than that, i have done all of my work myself with the obligatory help from my father. Being out of highschool for only two years, its great to hear that kids close to my age aren't ALL bitten by the ***** bug!

Sweet it's always great to hear that the other sex is in love with cars as much as we seem to be! Thanx for the compliment though it's always appreciated. I just recently, like about 2 weeks ago, finished with my new motor and trans. i got the rear end rebiuld while i was at it too. So i know what you mean by short on funds.

Heh,

I'm 28 and an old fart by this post lol

(old dinosaurs never die, they just pass u youngens lol)

Only thing I ever got from my folks was a loan enought to buy a decent car. Got the car and got to pay off the loan too :-)

But hey, any kid nowadays in HS that can put together a car like that with ot without hsi dad helping, has done a damned good job.

I think if my dad came out to help me on sanding 101 or engine swap 3001 I would dump a brick(read between the lines lol)

later

But that's one hell of a nice looking camaro, I'm usually not a fan of yellow third gens, but yours is beautiful. The rims seem to 'flow' well with the color of the car.

good looking car I got my first Camaro when i was 15. And I still have it. My dad paid half for it. And I paid the other half. I didn't do to much to the car in HS. But you do really good work I admire your dedication to the car. It turned out really good. I think I only have one picture of my car when I had it before the tear down, and now the restoration in progress. And it's with my little brother lol slave labor is awesome.

Cool

If I were you I would get the door bumper side molding peices so You dont get dents in the side of your car from doors.
