I'm getting ready to have a friend paint my hood. I want to remove the fake grill inserts on the hood blisters. Has anybody done this without ruining them? If so, please explain how you did it.

Also, while I'm at it. Can anybody verify my paint code on my '91 Z28 as being 23U? I know the color on my car is called Maui Blue, but my RPO sticker is gone.

I saw a post on here from someone who removed the fake grille inserts and replaced them with real mesh. He also had to cut holes towards the bottom of the hood blister for water to drain out. Said it seemed to work good for him and it looked better. Try doing a search and see if you can find the post.

I don't really want to go cutting on the hood blisters.

I'm thinking about trying a heat gun to see if that'll loosen the adhesive.

I have 2 sets of extra blisters. That "fake" panel in there is actually aluminum. I have 1 set stripped down and went ahead and pollished the aluminum. It looks really cool. If you masked off the plate, painted the blisters, then polished the panels, that could look really good. That's what I am doing for my '87 Z28.

So you didn't remove that panel to Polish it?

nope, stripped the paint off the blister, polished the panel with a dremel and polishing compound. Still haven't painted yet, but It is really easy to tape them off. Just be sure to not paint or clear over the polished part so you can keep it clean and SHINY

My friend that is painting the hood this weekend said they actually came off pretty easy. He said it was just double sided tape holding them on. (Probably not factory.)
