How to remove rear seat bottoms properly

I've gutted my fair share of 3rdgens in my life, but recently I've been working on two cars that I want to restore (as far as the interior). Every time I've removed the rear seats in the past I've always had a problems with the seat bottoms. They have that metal wire under the seat that somehow clips into the bracket welded to the floor. Can anyone explain the proper way to remove these without damaging them? Every time I've done it in the past I wasn't trying to restore anything so I just manhandled and mangled the seat bottoms out bent those wires to hell. This time around I want to re-install them so I dont want to damage anything. If anyone has any tricks I'd love to hear it. Thanks!!

They don't clip in, they bolt in. That bracket that you're talking about is supposed to have a nut attached to the inside out it. The nut breaks off easily. I had a friend of mine at work weld two ears to the nut so I could get a bolt through the wire bracket and into the nut. The ears on the nut prevent it from spinning.

I hope I was able to make that clear I’m not the greatest at explaining things without visual aids.

It's interesting how all that holds the rear seat bottom in is a 13mm bolt in the front and velcro in the rear.Or did they change this after '83?

I installed some leather seats fron a 95 in my 82 and the 13mm bolts were the same. The only difference was the newer seats didn't have the velcro so the seats didn't stay down

How do you guys get to that bolt? Do you pretty much have to bend those wires to get at it? I cant honestly say I remember a bolt and I've removed these seats from 4 cars LOL must have broke them all.

Just feel around under the middle of the front of the seat. You will probably have to pull up slightly on the front of the seat to slip the socket in there, but its really easy to do.
