I am thinking of buying my paint from them b/c they can mix up the colour i want and prices seem reasonable.. I know you are supposed to stick with the same manufacturer throughout so this would be ok too right? Trouble is, there are soo many different primers and additives and stuff, i'm not really sure which ones i need...

Can anyone help? I am planning on doing base/clear, the car prob wont be down to metal (although thats not to say some small areas wont be bare metal)..

Please help pick which primers/hardeners/reducers/additives i need...

i am also looking to do a paint job myself. so far i am just about ready for primer. i bought a urethane 2k primer from a local shop and got a better price then the 2K kit on the web site that you listed. i dont know about their quality compared to the product that i got but there prices + shipping cost would make it a lot less desirable to me. i would get prices from all your local paint supplyers before you start looking online. just my 2 cents. i think you should always go with local supplyers when possible, keep your local economy stronger and build relationships with the supplyers around you. sorry about the rant!!

already tried that dude, there are none.... we have a sherwin williams in town but they dont do any automotive paint.....

The link above is to a reputable paint supplier - they are the same company I ordered my HOK paint from (you can click a link at top of their page for HOKpaint.com). They have customer service people that answer the phones during normal business hours (California time), and they are very knowledgable and helpful. Give 'em a call and tell them what you're looking for, and they'll set you up.

The only thing I know that they may not help with is which reducers or catalysts you'll need - that's usually a preference of the painter himself (fast, slow, nedium, etc.) - it all depends on what the painter is doing, how much time he has, and how much time it'll take. On my car, my painter is having to paint it all non-stop, because of the effect we're going for, the paint I'm using, etc. It'll take him 12-15 hours of non-stop painting to get it right, because of the number of coats, flash times, etc. - so he wanted a particular reducer/catalyst to help with timing issues (as I understand it - I don't know anything about this - that's why I'm paying him!).

It all depends on what you want, and how deep your pockets are. You can get PPG paint (and others) mixed to match just about any color, and get the correct reducers and such at even alot of the local CarQuest stores. But regardless, better line up a painter, and find out his preferences, BEFORE you order.

Thanks man, Just what i was looking for.. I am planning on doing the paint job myself so no painters preferences as yet!

The reducers (i think) isnt a prob, they list what temp range you should use each reducer in so i think i can figure that out, my biggest prob i think is which primer(s) to buy.. there are heaps of different ones listed and most of them say they are for commercial use not home use.. What diff does that make?

take a look at these guys. (paintsforcars.com) i bought enamel paint for engine bay area, shipped to my house for 88.00 bucks. it comes with everything you need to paint with. they also have the base coat clear coat
