Aero reinforcement

I believe this would only apply to Camaros, but has anyone reinforced the upper half of their front bumper cover and their chin spoiler?

I have seen quite a few photos of 3rd gen Camaors haulin' pretty good, in most photos, it looks as if the chin spoiler is being pulled under the car and the upper half of the bumper cover gets pushed in (in between the headlight buckets).

I was thinking of trying to find a way to prevent this from happening.

I believe I've seen in the 4th gen Camaros, that there is a styrafome fill that goes behind the upper bumper cover. I was thinking of something similar to this...

Then for the chin spoiler, I was thinking of forming steel rod to go behind the chin spoiler to basically support the shape of it.

If anyone has addressed these areas before, it would be great to see.

Re: Aero reinforcement

good ides i just might try to do something of this myself. if your gonna reinforce your bumper and chin your gonna have to remove it correct? well what if you take a heat gun to soften the plastic where its sagging if it is and push it out a little and spray some expanding foam there from homedopt... it should be dense enough to keep it from bending in at speed and you could probably do the same to the chin spoiler and shave it clean so you cant see it from outside the car. humm... things that make you go hummmm...

Re: Aero reinforcement

Hmm, the spray foam isn't a bad idea, at leasat for the bumper cover. Could probably tape a sheet of plastic or something to the unuderside of the bumper cover so the foam doesn't stick (incase the cover has to be removed in the future), then get something to form the sides and back of it. Easier than trying to find a source for a block of foam and shaping it as needed. I can't imagine the foam expansion extreme enough to want to push the cover out to form a bubble effect, but that would be the only thing I'd worry about.

As far as the chin, I don't know if the foam would be sufficient. I did see this photo, which is a PERFECT resolution for the chin, and looks frekin' sweet to boot. Looks a little intnsive to create though...

Re: Aero reinforcement

thats interresting... looks like a bunch of work. and than all that air that does not cool off the underside of the engine and trans and exhaust... maybe. and also for that foam you can probably just put doan wax paper and tape that in place. and i do not believe that it will push out the front. spray, let it expand and than spray another layer. but i do think that the foam will give enough support for the chin spoiler. just my thoughts nothing to prove it with yet. when i get my project camaro done ill give that a try before i put it on. i have to find one as of now
