Pics of my 82 TA project. Need repair advice.
Ok, this is the 1982 TA I purchased last Saturday and thought had no major body issues until I completely gutted the upholstery. That's probably the typical story on this forum. I have some money to throw at this project and overall the car is solid so not looking for suggestions to part-it-out or scrap it.
Here is a pic of the drivers seat mount. The rust isn't nearly as bad as it looks in the image and I think can be removed easily. Seeking opinons on best solution to do this.
Below --> I removed the rear seats and peeked into the small access that leads into quarter panel in front of the rear wheels (not sure of technical name?) and discovered there is alot of surface rust. The area is solid and I'm sure it can be repaired if addressed very soon but what is the best approach? Sandblasting seems the only real option b/c it is a difficult access.
Also anyone have suggestions on a portable sandblaster? I heard that the vacuum type is best for automobile repair but I'm really not into spending $500 on a sandblaster for one project.
And how about POR15? Should I be using it on the interior metal to stop further rust?
Also have some rust on the drivers side floor panel but saving that for another forum post.

I know home depot and lowes sell rust converter chemicals. I haven't used them personally but I've heard they work well from others. It turns the rust to a black primer like color that can be painted.

i used the rust reformer spray paint that i got at autozone on my seat tracks and seat mounts, that was over a year ago and they havent shown any sign of rust since-if you go with the por 15 i would brush as much loose rust as you can, have a shop vac handy, then follow the directions, metal prep and clean-oh yeah, and dont get that crap on your hands,it takes forever to get off!

Thanks for the response. I'd like to get that seat mount as clean as possible and I think a rust stopper might be the only way short of cutting out some metal.

Another alternative is to brush on a rust eating acid, like phosphoric. Naval jelly, or a product with a name similar to "rust eater", that contains an acid, would be what you'd look for. This is similar to the rust convertor products. You would then paint it however you like.
