Strip or Paint over the Factory Undercoating? HELP.

I have some Duplicolor Bed Liner I was going to coat the underside of my IROC.

I was wondering if I have to strip the factory undercoating before I apply the Bed Liner or can I just paint over.

If I need to strip, which is the best way?

Can I simply use an epoxy primer before applying the Bed Liner.

Any help is appreciated.

Saw a few guys who stripped the underside down to the bare metal, it looks great but seems like overkill (could be wrong).

How the underside looked today. (no motor, trans or driveshaft)

Strip it, clean it, have a sandwich, clean it again, drink 5 beers, then clean it one more time before you sand it for the application of the bedliner. Don't waste your money if you don't intend to remove it all. I found that a 4" grinder with a soft wire wheel makes quick work of it. You'll be a huge mess, but it's worth it. Application of a rust inhibitor like POR15, Rust Bullet, or Rust Encapsulator to the rust areas would be advantageous before the bed liner.

do it the right way!!! It took me 4 days to get all that stuff off my car!
I used raptorliner in my wheel wells and paint on the underside... I was going to use raptor liner on the whole under body, but after it took me so long to prep... I decided paint would look better...

to give you an idea of how bad it was

I had already cleaned the driver and pass floors in this pic. but again, to give you an idea of how bad it was.

Rear to Front (you can see that I went to bare metal in some places)

looks good I can imagine the stock undercoating is not easy to remove, I would have been lazy enough to just have it stripped and sodablasted or something
