For the rest of us, there are few reasons why we are interested.

- weight savings, a carbon hood should be a GOOD bit lighter than the stock steel hood, and this weight is up high.

- carbon fiber is much stiffer and stronger than fiberglass, nice for those of us that don't like floppy hoods

- Anvil is known for making very high quality stuff. I feel much more confident their hood will be bolt than anyone else
I ask because I have a fiberglass hood by Harwood. It's light and not what I consider floppy. I know carbon fiber is not that much lighter than fiberglass. I've never had a problem with the strength of my thin fiberglass hood so why again dwould someone want to buy a carbon fiber hood for OUR cars other than being able to tell people that they have a carbon fiber hood. You could almost buy a fiberglass one piece front end for the cost of a carbon fiber hood. You're getting the same mentality that rice burners have when they get carbon fiber hoods and deck lids and bumpers. Flame suit on!

What style fiberglass hood do you have? how much would you say it weighs? I weighed my stock 92 hood with heat extractors and it weighed 76lbs.. So Im looking for a fiberglass stock type hood that I could put the 92' heat extractors on... Carbon Fiber is to expensive...

My job is to design carbon composite structural components for machines that keep hundreds of people alive in a very challenging environment. To suggest carbon is used merely for looks is incredibly laughable.

Weight is merely one of many considerations. While their weights are somewhat similar, you also need them to be strong and stiff. Carbon is quite strong and stiff for its weight, in fact its the best structural material we have for strength and stiffness. By comparison, fiberglass is pretty darn strong but has poor stiffness. I can't think of a single structural application of fiberglass in any industry, except maybe some low pressure pressure vessels, or something where the flexibility is desired. The only reason to use fiberglass is because you want the flexibility or because of the cost. Ever see the edges of a fiberglass hood start to flex up at triple digit speeds? I have, and its not something I want to be looking at on my car.

. You are taking this out of context. I am speaking of using carbon fiber on our vehicles. Daily drivers and weekend Warriors no need for carbon fiber. If someone wants to spend money on Weight savings they will be much better off spending it somewhere else. Such as 1 piece fiberglass ends lighten rotating assemblies aluminum engine blocks replacing the k member and a arms with tubular pieces.

First of all, nobody ever said anyong needed a carbon hood. Just like you car does not need a fiberglass hood.

The point of people looking to get anvil to make the hood is because anvil makes very high quality stuff. By comparison most other fiberglass and carbon hoods are junk and require lots of fitment. Obviously Anvil isn't looking to market their stuff to your normal "daily driver" types.

I would much rather buy a $1000 hood that is good to go than a $400 hood that requires a ton of work. For me time is money. Everyone has their own balance.

And loosing weight on the hood is just about the best and easiest place to do it on a thirdgen. The stock hood is very heavy, high on the car, and far forward. Not to mention the hoods are easy to replace. The fruit doesn't hang any lower than that.

Re: Fiberglass / Carbon Fiber Hood - R U Down?

I will pay up to $1200, but not more for a carbon fiber IROC hood...

actually, I would pay a little extra for the outter layer to be 4x4 "long strand" carbon fiber.

Here is what the 4x4 looks like
