Aftermarket hood hard to open

I have an after market fiberglass hood, when trying to open, hinges don't move easy and puts strain on the hood. Any ideas?

Re: Aftermarket hood hard to open

You probably need to oil the shocks and hinges, and the hinges themselves might have a little toe to them since being re installed with the new hood ( \ \ or \ / ) which will prevent them from opening and closing smoothly and easily.

Re: Aftermarket hood hard to open

Hard to say, The OEM hinges are designed to handle a heavy steel hood.. Are you sure it is the hinges and not new hood struts.. The difference between my turbo daytona hood and the oem hood is at a rough guess about 75 + lbs...

Maybe the hinges aren't aligned right?
I think some of the fiberglass hoods are to flexible for the cars as well. When you lift the hood it tries to bow up in the middle, making the hinges bind.
Have someone move the hood up and down while you study the hinges and see if you an see them binding or distorting.

Re: Aftermarket hood hard to open

Thanks! Playing around with the hinges to get them better aligned helped out tremendously. Now has a lot smoother lift. Still some flex on the fiberglass hood but it is minimal and not as much as before. I also WD-40'd the hinge and the struts.
