Adjusting doors after weatherstrip replaced

I was wondering if anyone has a write up or can explain to me on how to adjust the doors after the weatherstripping was replaced. Prior to that the doors closed perfectly. Thanks

Install "cheap" weather stripping?

^^^^^

If your doors were fine, not sagging, good order BEFORE, then after you install new, you shouldn't have to adjust the doors.

Re: Adjusting doors after weatherstrip replaced

I beg to differ with it being an issue of cheap seals. I have soffseal weatherstripping and it is tight even a year later. I adjusted the doors where you could latch them shut with one finger before weatherstripping. The crush zones are just molded too thick. You'll find quite a few accounts of this on here with metro and soffseal, which seem to be the favorite choices.

I had that issue for a while after I changed my weatherstripping. Give it some time. The new seals will eventually conform to the door channel. No need to adjust your doors. Remember, you were used to closing your doors with ~25-30 year old seals. They pretty much lost their elasticity.

Why do that, just keep the doors closed for a while, they'll settle down.

Re: Adjusting doors after weatherstrip replaced

Not every model of our cars has elongated holes for the door strikers, I'm afraid.
My 91 Firebird, for example, did not have them.
I had installed Metro door seals and couldn't shut the doors properly.
Had to SLAM them shut. But, after a couple of weeks, the doors could be closed with normal effort again.

I f your car will be back in a week or two and the doors are kept closed, most likely your seals will take shape

Re: Adjusting doors after weatherstrip replaced

Carefully warm the new seals with a heat gun then close the door and leave it for a while. You may notice a slight improvement, if so you can repeat several times until the seal crush areas are re-formed.
