I have some very slight surface rust that I plan on sanding away in my floor pans and putting in new seam sealer alond the rocker panel edge. What is the best brush on/roll on product they make to seal the floor pans from any future rust. Do they make a brush or roll on primer to cover the sanded parts. I dont care about how it looks since its not going to be sprayed since its going to be covered up by carpet anyways. Just looking to seal the floor pans and avoid what happened in my other car which was a rust out situation.

By far the best product you can roll on is POR15. it is a roll on product or you can spray it but most people just apply it directly. you can paint right over the rust. seals it permanently and you can get it in black grey satin black and even clear. I work at a napa auto parts and I sell tons of this stuff. And I have used it multiple times on my own vehicles and it works awesome. I highly recommend it if you never want it to rust.

Ive heard 2 different versions when painting por 15 directly over rust, ive seen where its ok to do and also the rust can bubble the por 15 up and it peel off. Ill definetely check it out.

Years ago I did some experiments with the stuff. I had rust on the bottom door seam of a daily driver truck. I cleaned off the scale as best I could, treated it with the cleaner and prep and top coated it with the paint as directed. The rust came back within a few months and the POR was flaking off. With that in mind I'm not going to bad mouth the product. I think you have to understand that it's a "rust encapsulator". Meaning you have to totally cover the rust for it to work as advertised. And on a sheet metal that is joined at seams and pinch welds that is almost impossible. I'm convinced the rust in the bottom of my door seam that was not accessible was the cause of my rust coming back so quick.

All that being said, I've used POR15 on a lot of other parts that I could get complete coverage on and had good luck with it.

you can roll or brush on any primer it may not look nice but its the same as spraying I would use a epoxy primer making sure you have all surfaces covered

Rust that has penetrated deep into the metal pores is the most difficult to stop. Por15 can work pretty darn good on light rust and it's not to easy to chip.
