Write Up: Making E-Brake Cables for LS1 rear disc's

I have been meaning to make this write up for a while now since there seems to be no real write up. I made my E-Brake cables for $45. So lets get this going.

Order (2) Emergency Brake Cables Tru-Torque C94597 from Advance Auto as I believe they are the only ones that carry them.

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/t...zoneAssigned=1

Okay so now you have 2 cables that are about 1.5 inches to long and the slots are slightly to small.

First thing to do is dremel out the slots to enlarge them to fit over the ls1 E-Brake hook like so: The metal is thicker than it looks in the photo

Fits over the hook like so:

Okay so half way done. So what I did was mock everything up and then measure/guessimate how much cable you have to remove from it. I used 1.5 inches (If I remember correctly)

To shorten them and to secure the cable I drove to the local west Marine and used the Cable crimps that are used on sailboats to secure the cable tension stays.

All the tools for this were at the West Marine store.

Cut the silver cable stopper that came on the cable.

Re: Making E-Brake Cables for LS1 rear disc's

I cut the cable right after the silver crimp. I wanted to make sure that the crimps I put on stayed so I put 4 on lol. Over kill but it only cost $5 to do the crimps. I made sure to slide the crimps on and I crimped the end of the cable first and set the last crimp, the one farthest from the cut end about 1.5 inches back to "shorten" the cable without cutting it. like so:

Try to make the cables the exact same length so you have the same amount of pull under the car. I did not have to modify the factory e-brake adjuster under the car at all.

This picture shows the modified vs unmodified cable

I know its not super detailed but its pretty straight forward but helps to have pictures to look at. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Oh and yes the cables have springs on them. I did cut off a few "curls" from the spring, it wasn't necessary but I did as they are a bit to long. Also the sheathing around the cable fits in the factory brackets.
