disk brakes on stock drum rear
Hey guys, I checked the stickies for this but only saw a build your own rear drum set up. I'm wondering of there is a way to make my stock drum rear a disk rear? I put 3.73 gears in and now my LSD won't lockup, I want to upgrade the carrier and axles but I also want a disk rear. Any help is much appreciated

Can be done, but is rarely worth the effort.
You have to have ALL the ENTIRE disc setup; backing plates, caliper brackets, carriers, calipers, rotors, parking brake goodies, etc. Then you have to cut off the big thing that the slave cyl goes through and drill the flanges for the disc stuff.
Absolutely NOT worth the effort to put on the cast-iron calipers. (82-88)
Better plan would be, come up with a core with the type brakes you want (89-92) and buy all your other misc parts and put them in that one instead of the one you have. Or, just go get a LS1 rear (98-02).

ok, i was just making sure that for 1 it could be done and for 2 that it was not worth it. a friend of mine just gave me a full rear out of his 97 t/a. had an LS1 (has LS6 now). it doesnt have the brake parts on it, but he explained to me he had an 85 t/a at one point and put a rear from a 97 t/a on and it was 2" too wide. was thinking of just selling this and trying to find a rear w/ disk brakes from the junkyard from a thirdgen
