Is $5500 a good price for an 86 IROC?
I'm in the market for a third gen and I'm torn between an 86 IROC and an 88 base Firebird. The IROC has the L69 305 and 5 speed and seems mechanically sound, but it has many small issues (cracked dash, broken hood and rear hatch struts, saggy headliner, and a little dent in the hood), and the seller is asking $5,500. The Firebird is in far better condition, but has the throttle body 305 mated to a 5 speed, and is listed for $4,500. Is it worth spending $1,000 more for the IROC, or is the Firebird the better option? Are the prices even reasonable?

If it was me I would pick the L69 IROC, stock for stock it has the more powerful engine and better handling/performance goodies along with more collectibility/value. Also the issues you mentioned are small in the world of old cars and relatively simple to repair.
If you plan on LS or an engine/power train upgrade go with the cheaper car in better shape as originality is out the door at that point.

I appreciate the advice. If I do end up buying maybe I'll post pictures.
