Richard, thanks for the complement and I am anticipating meeting you. Give me a call when you return and we will get together for a little bench racing session!

Mikey, The interior is on it's way. I am still fabricating the dash panel needed to mount the autometers in the stock location but it is almost complete. Other than that I just need to weld in the roll bar and re-assemble everything.

I have always heard the stories from people that start their own business about how hard it is to find time to work on your own vehicles and now I believe them. It seems that everytime I start to work on my car another project comes along that takes weeks on end to complete, and I will always take care of my customers first.

I hope that everyone reading this is ready to step up and get this camaro community pumping here in Edmonton and region. I am going to be having a kick *** grand opening in september that I would like to see everyone that can attend do so. Everytime I go for a drive on the weekend I am lucky to see two thirdgens in the whole night, let's change that and make our presents known!!!

Exclusive to the members of this site no matter where you are from, I will be offering free dyno pulls during the grand opening. That is a service that would normally cost over 100 dollars per vehicle!!! My shop is swamped with fourth gen's and I just want to see you guys represent the thirdgen body style no matter how big of a heap you think your car is. If you are from Calagary or wherever this offer extends to you as well, the more the better.

Thanks guys,

Martin

Are you gonna be at the shop on Thursday night?

If so - gimme some directions and your cell number (In case I don't have your newest one), and you can show me the beasts in your shop.

Oh - and don't tempt me with that Formula OK?

Hey Martin, your truck pics are lookin' good

The pics that i did of your truck are looking really good so far and i should have at least a few of them ready for you in the next day or two.

I also found out that i have a 283 block in my folks' shed. I think i might build that instead of spending the money on a 350 block. I figured for a first project engine, the 283 would be good in my 85 Z28. Your thoughts?

Just a dumb question - but why not build your 305 instead of the 283?

Hey Trevor

I would do the 305 that's in the car now, except for one problem... I need to drive the car and i can't afford to do an engine in a weekend.

On another note, if anyone knows of a 350 block kicking around for cheap, please let me know. After talking to a few people, i think a 350 or 383 would be a better way to go than the 283.

And on even another note, if anyone is looking for a 283 block and a set of slightly high performance heads, please let me know.

Jeff

350 blocks are more common than dirt. You shouldn't have trouble finding one so you don't have to waste time on a 283.

what places do you go for your engines?
i'm looking for an L98 to replace the LG4 (or at least an easy 350 that will stay serpentine and be an easy drop in)

i'm also looking for a dual snorkel aircleaner, stock w/ hoses and scoops

thanks

Any smallblock will drop right in and stay serpentine if you swap your accessories with it.

lots of machine shops have a bunch of 350 blocks kickin around, or goto a salvage yard and see if they have an engine pulled. look in the trader as well, usually a block or two for sale for $100 or so

If your engine is only burning oil, it would be cheapest to rebuild it as a 305. If you needed to replace the crank, for what you'd spend on a 335 kit, you could get a 350 or 383.

everyone has a 383. that's sort of the reason i want to go with a 335 or something different at least. i know its going to be harder to make power with a smaller motor but im not trying to build a 600hp monster or something. even if you think its a waste of time, does anyone know where i can get a rotating assembly for the stroker for a decent price?? thanks

If you're serious on the stroker 305, Mopac and Best Buy Performance (both on 170th Street) deal Scat cranks. They make a stroker crank and Keith Black makes the stroker pistons.

You have to deal with tweaking your engine management to work with the increased displacement too.

Hey mikey_b!

Lurking around this board for quite a few years, I've seen this 335 stroker kit get mentioned time and time again, yet I have yet to see too many people actually DO it. Under my old userid (before it was corrupted), I originally posted a q about the 305 stroker, only to be told time and time again why should you do this. Frankly, those that say don't do this are mostly right. You can and will ALWAYS make more power and more reliable power with bigger displacement, given that both are aspirated equally. In short, why spend $$$ on a block just to get it close to what a mild 350 would do, when instead you can take that extra cash and make yourself a wild 350.

When I say mostly right, if practicality and a budget are your restrictions, the 335 is NOT your choice. If you have the dough to make your car "unique" in whatever way you think you want to, by all means go for it. It’s your car, so you can be “right” Search on 305 stroker or 335 and you will see many threads on this. After you sift thought the "WTF are you doing building this" flamewars, you will find that there is some good advice for what to do to the block, the balancer, and all other kinds of info. I would advise against posting much on this though, you'll just get another flamewar started. Search and read my friend!

So, if you have the cash, the ambition, and the desire to make this 335, go right ahead. Don't let other's pooh poohing your thoughts stop you. But, if you are like most of us and are on a budget, the advice of taking and rebuilding a mild 350 is advice seriously worth considering.

After all, it is YOUR car, so have fun with it. Do what YOU want. My car is built for driving, not the straight track, so if I listened to every "why pansy autocross" complaint I get from the M-u-l-l-e-t Brothers I've run into, I'd have a tubbed-out slick-wearing dragster.

Personally, I think that spending that kind of money and sacrificing that many cubic inches in the name of uniqueness is best left to the magazines. If you're worried about it, you can build a 383 and just tell everyone it's a 335. The vast majority of people who look at it are never going to know the difference anyway.

Don't worry, you didn't misss out on anything! My new shop fell victim to slow *** builders and clearing city permits. I am just now moving in to the new place and won't be completely set up for another month or so.
If you want to throw your car on the dyno I will cut you a good deal, just give me a call. As for the offer I extended to all thirdgeners on this board, I guess we will have to wait until spring time for the big shin dig. Feel free however to swing by the new shop and check things out this winter.

Later,

Martin

Yes. i took mine out for a rip today but it still spins out a lot. even in 3rd. so i ended a short drive today by leaving 2 black marks in the driveway before putting it away.

All the snow needs to be gone.

Oh if any of you know a place in Edmonton besides JB's that would have a 3" cutout, preferrably electric. let me know. Headers are going in soon i think.

I got my non-electric from Mopac (Or was it bestbuy?) for $80 for a pair.

I see you're getting one with a 5 speed. manual's are fun, but i broke my clutch a few days ago. Get this. revving with the clutch disengaged, suddenly re-engaged slightly. it went home on a tow truck. .. and it happened 4 blocks from home.

Lets hope these dual friction centerforces are as good as i've read in my searches. it goes in tomorrow. So is there still snow in lethbridge? we just got dusted today.

snow was almost non-existant....till today...a wee dusting started when i went to work, now i actually have to look for the miscellaneous junk in my landlords backyard so i don't kill myself...stupid basement suites....

Yeah...5 speeds are grand IMHO...just one small problem....haven't driven a CAR let alone a stick in just over a year....ex GF got her car impounded a while back...this'll be fun....

on the positive side, i can get my entire windshield replaced for 180 bucks....no complaints here...

EDIT:: forgot to say "ouch...sorry bout the clutch...tricky little beggers aren't they"

Thirdgen gathering?

From the posts in this subscription there must be enough of us to get together and show our thirdgens. I try to go to the 137 Ave location on Fridays, but most of the old guys driving their BOUGHT 50's, 60's and 70's cars are just a little snobbish (for a lack of a better word) and I don't particulary feel welcome. So reply and let's get out there. After reading several of the post from our American cousins, it would be great if we got together half as much as they do.

If interested reply and let's meet.

The Hangout at the old A&W in Beverly is a favourite of mine. Anything goes there. Last time I stopped in there was a '58 Citroen 2CV, still packing most of it's 12 HP, with a couple blown BB Chevs parked down at the other end.

Fri and Sat nights until about 10 pm.

I'll be heading to the strip tonight as long as the weather holds out. I know me and my stock 305 will get smoked so if anyone wants to come and properly represent the third gens they should come out! Good, clean fun...

That's too funny! I bought my Dirty Bird in Yellowknife and swapped out the dead V6 while I lived there (Old Town). I bet you can't wait for them to finish up the highway so you can go faster than 70 Km/hr !!

Anyone got some seats kicking around? 4th gen or 3rd gen, doesn't matter as long as they are in great shape....

Black or red preferred, but will consider any colour...

Hey Trevor,

I have some 95 Z28 seats if you are interested. They are two tone gray and black. Last time I checked they were in nice shape with the exception of a small cigarette burn on the pasenger side which would be an easy repair. I am not sure if you have seen them already but let me know if your interested.

hehehe the roads still suck around here, we have our ghetto 1/4 mile strip out on the highway by the sand pits, its a nice piece of new pavement there. Every once in a while a group of us go out there and mark the road and do a little bit of draging. You might notice thats where the cars parked too

Maybe next year if i get the stroker done and have a 700R4 or something better than my th-350 ill take a drive or 2 to edmonton fo some fun. Right now i think it would cost me $3k on fuel just to get down there

So is their any big camaro meets down there in the summer? just wondering as i may as well make it worth my while to do the trip.

Wow, I think everyone disappeared!

I've been in strike hell, working my A$$ off, and starting a new Edmonton portal at http://www.conect2edmonton.ca.

Everyone else?

Hello??? anyone out there?

28 degrees today and I want to drive!!!

Oh, and I am babbling to get rid of that annoying little message about posting since I haven't in awhile. You know, the note that says...Hello rskermer it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks. Why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?

OK, so I did. Mindless and not very helpful, but I did post.

I like cheese. ...and burgers. Oh, and little baby ducks, worn out pickup trucks, and rain....

Yesterday was a really hot drive, but mine is black. You're damned either way, take the t-tops out and you have the hot sun on you, leave them in, and the car turns into an oven on wheels. but it's better than being snowed in and not being able to go anywhere. =]

Down with these gas prices too! See you on the road. Today should hit 31.

Just thought the car was ready to cruise, did the swap. Timed the Vortec Stealth Ram and didn't notice the throttle body lever hits the top of the fuel rail. Just my luck, I guess I'll be picking up a new Holley TB so at least I can check to see what WOT feels like again.

Steet Legals

Have any fellow Edmontonians made it out to the Street Legals for a run this summer? I'm hoping to make it out there to try the new engine & trans but it hasn't happened yet. The weather hasn't been cooperating either.

I figured maybe someone else from the board has been there and got a time to brag about?
