Where did my Clock/Display Go?

Hey Guys,

I have just re-fitted my original GM Delco Radio (not Radio Cassette) into my '86 'roc.

I had my Radio on but it was getting dark outside so I switched my lights on...........

............and my Radio Display went awol - I was still getting tunes but no Clock or Frequency Display.

I managed to get a set of block connectors from a junk yard so that I could re-install the original Radio. (the previous owner must have thrown the original connector plugs away I guess)

I spliced all the appropriate wires back together from the harness to the connector plugs from the junk yard (quite easy because they were color coded etc)

The Radio barked into life without problems until the lights go on!

I have a wire spare (which is Grey or Gray? I think) that runs from the junk yard Radio Connector Block (marked "Lamp" on the Radio Case) but dosen't seem to have a corresponding wire on the car harness to splice to.

I think this wire not being connected is my problem

Anybody got any ideas?

Sounds like you're on track.

By looking at the photo, the grey wire is for Lights On Input, which (I think) then uses power (or input) from the Lights Dimmer input (brown).

I had a similar problem because somehow I crossed the two (confused I guess) when installing the newer deck. I'm pretty sure you need both wires.

OR you put the two prong connector that sits in the back of the radio on backwards

Hey Allan,

That wiring diagram is the business and I have now wired up the offending Gray/Grey wire to the dimmer connector and my diplay is back off holiday!

Thanks for your help.
