Help me pick an Amp.

Hey guys,

i am looking for an amp to drive two Kicker Comp 10's (125w RMS 4ohm)

so far, here is what i have been looking at

JL Audio 250/1 or 500/1
RF Punch 301m or Power 351m
Kicker KX 400.1
Alpine M300 or M500

now i dont' know a whole ton about this stuff, but i am smart guy, and understand electricity and load, ect, so i don't know if i am looking in the right places even, all of those amps are 2ohm stable, so i could wire both subs in parrallel, my other options would be to get either a stereo or 4 channel amp right???

which way is prefered? should i stop looking at mono amps, and look at multi channel amps?

Thanks for the help.

All depends on how you'd like it set up. If you already have an amp to push your mid's and highs, then a mono will be more than fine. If your mid's and high's are just running off of the head unit, a multi channel , like a 5 channel, would be more suited. It's all in what sound quality you want also.

If it were me, I'd use a Kicker amp, but then I like to match my components, lol. Any one you listed would be fine, but if you did use a Kicker, might I suggest the 2 channel KX300.2 (150x2 - 300x1), or any other amp in that same range. You don't want to over power the subs too much.

All these are great amps. If you have the money for any one of these amps, you will not be sorry.

I run the JL audio 250 watt amp to my 2 JL 10's and it sounds very very good. IMO it would be a better investment than some of those others.

IMO the JL would be best due to its versatility. Regulated power supply and full output from 1.5-4 ohms. Cost is the only problem factor for them.

ok, now maybe i am missing something here, as far as i can tell that amp specs at

75x2 @ 4ohm
150x2 @ 2ohm
300x1 @ 4ohm bridged

now my subs are 4ohms a piece. wired in parrellel that puts me at 2 ohms on that circuit corret? if i wire them in series, than i am at 8ohms ?? so to run them each on their own channel (4ohm) i would only get 75w per sub. and i can't wire them in perrellel because it doesn't apear that this is 2ohm stable in bridged mode.

or am i complely missing something here?

My mistake. For some reason I was thinking you either had 2 or 8 ohm subs. OR I had them on the brain at the time because someone else was asking me about them. Although, I had a ZR360 pushing 2 12" 4ohm Comps before and it was doing fine, running cool and lasted till I sold it, then it got stolen from who I sold it to, grrr. So, in a nutshell, the amps you picked are fine, it's all personal preference and budget.

www.caraudioforum.com

Do a bit of checking around there.

Im going to run one of their A10's in my rezn8r stealthbox hooked to the 1000w ch of my memphis amp. If I like the sub i'll switch over to the Avionixx amps.

wow, they seem to like them there. but me not knowing much about this stuff, all the brand comparisons don't do much for me, i think i might just buy one, but it is hard for me to justify spending money on something i have no experiance with, on a brand i have no experiance with.

hopefully, more people will speak up and convince me!!!!

From dealing with eD the customer service is good. Right now they are a little swamped with bussiness but anyone who has had problems with the amp had little to no problems getting it fixed. go to http://forum.soundillusions.net/foru...?s=&forumid=20 and check it out.

I have also heard a lot of good things about those Avionixx(sp?) amps. I wouldn't hesitate buying one. I also like the jl on your list.

Just be VERY careful when tuning that amp on your subs...

All should be good.

Also have you already bought those subwoofers?

yes i bought them used from a guy in the local camaro club here.

probably not what i would have bought, but since my old stuff got stolen while my car was in impout (long story) i have been itching for bass again. and the price was right for a box and subs that was ready to drop in.

He already got the avionixx, the Memphis are great amps, and that was the other of the two we narrowed it down to, either one would definetly make ya smile, but i think he got the better of the two.

i did look at that amp, but there was only 1 dealer within 500 miles of me, and it was more than 200 miles away.

and since memphis doesn't sell online (at least not that i could see, and if you do purchase one online, it voids the memphis warrenty) i descided to go with the avionixx.

yeah, execpt it says right on memphis's website, that even buying a brand new one online voids their warrenty. that is the whole reason i didn't want to go that route, if i am spending the coin for a nice amp like that, i woudl like to know that if something is defective the company will honor it.

Earthquake amps are some of the best. A little on the expensive side though.
