My car has been broken into twice.
Thanks to ann richards (previous gov of texas) breaking into a car is on a mistimeanor (she says the jails were overcrowded). Gov Perry and legislature are debating putting it back to felony.

yeah they have to steal over a certain amount of goods for it to become a felony right now...

I wish we would just cut off their hand like in many other countries... no joke

I think I will look into a strobe light and a pain siren next week. In addition, now I REALLY want to rig one of those train horns up. Not as part of the alarm, just as a second horn on another circut. That way i can have the "wtf *******?" horn and the "GET THE HELL OUTTA MY WAY!!" horn.

Yeah, maybe. I figure between my normal horn, a PS system that I want to install, and an air horn, I will get the message across. And I can have lots of fun causing trouble when it's gridlock.

Mount the insanely-loud alarm speaker INSIDE the car... I wouldn't sit in there very long trying to get a radio or whatnot if there were 150+db in my ear

....

I heard one of those train horns in a truck during the day.

Holy Sh*t it was loud. I mean rediculous. Out of control.

BUT, you can't hook it to your alarm unless your alarm is smart enough to only sound the horn when there is a break in, and not when you arm/disarm the alarm with the remote.

well it just pulses... I thought a train horn took a second to start going off... like it builds up air pressure... in that case it wouldn't go off... and if you were worried about it. I bet you could just use a timed-transistor or something to make it only go off after 2 second of being triggered... so that it would only go off for a true alarm sequence.

Though it would probably be funny as hell to have it go off when you arm/disarm it...

Where I work we have Peterbilt semis and the newest one has a viper alarm and the 3 horns pictured above hooked up to the air tanks. If you're trying to break into the semi on the passenger side and those go off, you'd think that your hearing wasnt going to be the same.(We tested them, can be heard from ova 1.5 miles)

hopefully that alarm doesn't go off by accident... like when the remote is in your pocket, or when someone drives by with a subwoofer or lightning...

btw my viper alarm 'learns' to not go off to lightning... if there are multiple vibration alarms in a certain amount of time it disables that trigger altogether... that means someone could throw pebbles at your car and then when it stops beeping at ya, you could have your way with the car... although i guess they could always just smash your car and run off anyways, but at least this way they'd have all night to destroy your pride and joy.

Along these lines... A friend of mine had an 84 Toyota Cressida. It was Brown with Brown interior. The car looked like crap, but my friend installed an Alpine HU, Alpine Graphical EQ, 2 JL 12" W1's, Alpine v12 500 watt amp, and a box he made himself. He locked his keys in the center console of the car at school one day. His dad had the only other set of keys and was out of town until late that night.

On the way from his house to pick up his car, he commented to his dad that it would suck to get there and have his trunk lid in the air and all his stuff stolen... and Viola!!

Needless to say they turned the corner and the trunk was open.. the thieves had busted the front passenger window, reached across the center console (where the keys were), and popped the trunk and ripped the box w/subs and amp out of the trunk.

At least they didn't get his HU or EQ!~!

Well, we had a pretty good idea what group of people did it. About 6 months after he got jacked, my friend heard of someone tryin to sell a box. He went to "buy" it and low and behold, it was his box (minus the carpet and had drawings all over it in sharpie). He called the police... and got his box back.. but nothing else was ever found and we could not prove who took it... so they got away with that one... sucks!

the police didn't arrest this guy? because I would have gotten some people together and really messed that guy up...

it would be all my aggression towards theives being packed into one little confrentation, it would be awesome! ... well for us, not for the people who are trying to sell my stuff.

LOL... its been years now... someday maybe

btw.. this is my new name.. just thought I would make this one so I could add a sig and pic and it wouldn't confuse people.

blue82transam with a red car would probably have been too much for peeps to understand. I'll just save the other name for when I get Ole' Blue running again!

Hmm... you kno, it would b a stealthy trick to just have your stock head unit powerd by a hidden amp. it wouldnt be obvious as to the systems true power.

True, but it would have to be an amp that gets the input from the speaker lines, and those seem to always suck! lol

There are people who took the front face off the stock radio and glued all the buttons and ***** on, then recessed the aftermarket unit and put it over it when not in use! Looked totally stock! I can't find the pics though.

the way it's worded, sounded like he said to route the amplifying power from the amplifier to the speaker outputs on a stock headunit... which is basically the same thing as using the high voltage inputs on an amp... then stealth-mount the amp in the rear..

there's no good way around having a nice-looking h/u... stock looks like crap(read: old), regardless of what amp you have powering your speakers---plus you will never get the sound quality of a new deck...

the idea of putting a fake "stock" faceplate over your aftermarket is really hard to do, because most aftermarket decks stick out of the pod, as stock doesn't... plus what a pain in the *** to always have to be messing with that... just get a new deck with removable face plate, and take it off when you leave the car for more than 30 minutes.

get insurance.

I have a pioneer headunit, with removeable faceplate. And once it's off, there's a red LED that blinks, a lot like an alarm. But that didn't keep anyone out of my car, someone broke into it.. not to steal my sound system. (I have nothing but the head unit, a hidden amp, and aftermarket speakers in stock location, hate the "thumping" stuff) but they stole half a carton of cigarettes, and left my parking lights on to drain my battery. Not only was it annoying, but it made me late for a job interview.

I think half the time people only steal your **** to drive you nuts, not just to get it. But to know that once you find it gone, you'll call the cops, or anyone else that you can- and most likely never see it again.

Maybe this is just my point of view, but hey- I'm 16, and am not a theif, so how could I think like one? Haha.

they steal it because they think it's worth money, plain and simple

if it's someone that knows you, then they may steal it out of pure hatred.

I wonder what our windows cost from a reputable shop?

I've been wondering how much they'd run, even more so after that happened, thinking about the fact that all of my glass could be in pieces, gets me thinking.

if someone broke all the windows on your car, it would not be worth getting them fixed, go get another car.

Are they really that bad? I know about four-five people that have tons of spare parts sitting around I could buy for a very decent price. (Got the windsheild I needed for 10 dollars off one of them, and the other installed it for free and it's perfect. (He use to do it in glass-shops.) But hell, if new glass is that expensive. Maybe I should look into bullet-proof, heh.

You could do that, but I know someone with a 85 IROC, that he had converted to a convertible, and the second day he had it back, someone had cut holes in the top with a knife.

That'd be interesting to see, but it's my daily driver, lol. It rains a lot in Indiana, it'd suck.

that's where the plastic, see-through tarp comes into action! It's gonna rain so you put this specially-designed (RainModule) on your car...it velcros on to maintain perfect seal.. and when you get to your destination you can even use it as a poncho! good stuff

Maybe I should look into bullet-proof, heh.
i'm talking about the work to clean up like 4 sq feet of busted glass shards IN the car

I bet it would cost you well over $1000 to get all your windows fixed

each door window installed is like $200
windshield can be $200 by itself

rear hatch window... my *** I don't want to think.... anyone think it could cost $400? if you can even get it replaced?

you may have to go to junkyard and get used, crappy old windows

for me.. I have hella-expensive tint on my windows, so the cost goes up even more... lame

if someone smashed all my windows I would never get them fixed... of I'd replace them with plexiglass so they can never be broken again

hell yeah, plexiglass... maybe bulletproof style

I wonder if it'd be legal to mount a flamethrower that uses an alcohol aerosol (alcohol burns at a much lower temp than gasoline so it would have a hard time catching someone on fire -- but it would give them a nice singeing).

in the US, you'd probably get in the same amount of trouble... a Jury isn't the smartest group of people in the world... in fact, they are normally "collectively" stupid as a sack of dirt... they aren't going to understand that alchohol burns at a lower temp, all they are going to hear is that FLAMES came out from under the car and burned them...

pay no attention to the fact that the plaintiff was trying to break into your car... instead they were wrongfully assaulted by the mean, old car owner!
