Shopping for subs around 75-125 each,, any suggestion rockford, audiobaun, infinty, etc?

thinking of getting new subs i have 2 12" pioneers IMPP's my amp is a 600w kenwood... dont worry i can get another later but will use this one for now on the new subs also.

-I was looking at some of thoes audiobon (sp?) kind they look cool but i have no room to mount em upsidedown anyhow. Whats there better models?? I seen the alum kinds there not to bad price... any good??

-I also liked the Rockford P2 models, harder to find the p3s.

-I also seen JL "alternative" rip off subs there whats with those any good??

Dont tell me to get save and get the JL or buy the top of the line i can get, i dont want to pay too much... there just subs that arnt for me right now, but whats the best in the $75-125 each range for 12s on ebay. Anyone get a good set there lately any good sellers i should check?? Ill just be shoping and desideing now anyhow untill xmas is over. Thanks
Jeff

you probably dont think i know anything about audio systems cuz i have a board lol....but I have Memphis subs and amp in my car with a board and it sounds great, without a box it sounds good, so if you say that boxes are that much better than think how much better they would sound with a box

they aren't that pricey either...

On eBay you can find Infinity Kappa Perfects for around $110 ish. Or you could go with Kicker Comp VRs for closer to $90.
Away from eBay I would check out the Image Dynamics IDQ, Cardomain has decent deals on them.

Well, that amp is a lil hard to work with, but Id probably go with the same brands, just go a step lower, Infinity Reference, or Kicker Comp or the lower Image dynamics
I know ID does not sell at Best Buy, but I am a fan of their subs, I would recommend going to a store that offeres Image dynamics if there is one near you

If you choose to only use 1 sub, you may be able to use the above listed subs. The amp says it puts out 380 Continuous, Im not sure how accurate that will actually be. I have seen the CVRs driven w/350 watts fine, but I have not really seen the IDQs pushed far. I would rather have one CVR or IDQ rather than 2 references or Comps. The overall sound will be better with one quality sub than 2 cheaper subs

You might want to look at companies that sell their own products at lower prices (ie Elemental Designs). They have great products at an amazing price. I'm running one of their amps (NINe.2x) and have another on order (NINe.1). I will also be ordering two 13ov.2s as soon as I finish my new box.

I've had a chance to audition their subs (13ov.2) and they're amazing SQ speakers. They had a better sound than the 12w3v2 I heard at Tweeter when I was auditioning comps. Considering what they cost from factory it's a steal. Better still is that the main difference between their two sub lines is output - not price. Sure, their 'higher' line sounds a little better but it's no where near as drastic as say a w7 vs a w1v2.

Subtract one from their model # to get sub diameter. In other words a 13kv.2 is a 12", etc.

I would suggest checking out Elemental Design's k series (check out the o series if you want but it's a little out of your price range). Free shipping, great prices, great sound. The best part is that each sub comes with a 3 year warrantee and you can return them if you don't like them. This means two things: first, you're not stuck without a warrantee if your ebay purchase gets killed. Second, if you don't like it just return it. Give them a ring and talk to them, they're extremely friendly.

For the price and what you get you can’t go wrong. Even if they cost say $100-150 more they would still be tempting but I would probably be more tempted to go with a better known brand at that price point.

In that price range, I'd go for a 10" Dayton Reference subwoofer from parts express. In fact, I intend to put a pair into my Corvette if I ever get around to redoing the subs.

You can also get Alpine Type R subs for around that price if you shop around a little bit.

If going for ebay stuff, why not look at 12w3v2's? You can get a pair for $250.

mean - you have a pm.

I have 1 IDQ12 running of an Eclipse 33250 amp bridged giving the sub an honest 400w. sounds great. I was thinking of getting a different sub but there isnt much out there that sounds better. here is an A/D/S sub on Ebay that is supose to be a very good sounding sub but wants alot of power. i would go with it.

Ebay Sub

The JL 12w3v2 looks alright,, ive never actually heard any of these subs in person so i have to go all on what you guys say. Localy only thing we have is overpriced future shop to buy subs. Only thing they got in stock here is Infinty and MTX so that dont help me any. Canadian tire and walmart sell pioneer (base line) and sony (hell no). Our kicker, kenwood, alpine, P.Gold dealers all shut down within the last 2years (because of our new future shop and ebay getting popular) . So really theres not alot around. I and my gf have IMPP pioneers and i used to own, Pheinox gold, kicker (oldschool solobaric), and i had a cerwin vega dack n the days. All the subs you guys are listing are (75-125$ each range):

IDQ12 (Image Dynamics)
A/D/S/
JL 12w3v2
Dayton Reference sub
Alpine Type R
Elemental Designs
Infinity Reference
Infinity Kappa Perfects
Kicker comp vr (i understand that as a CVR also??)

Anyone disagree with the list or think i should make some cuts or additions?? Are they all about in the same ballpark??

None of you metioned the Audiobaun stuff or even the rockford P2's... does anyone like it or own it?? I find it hard to keep track of there different levels of lines of audiobaun.

heres that JL "alternative" copys i was talking about whats up with these anyone know?? HERE

Jim- why should i go with a 10 not a 12 my box already fits 2 12s??

Jtufts- dont hijack ppls threads.... fact is your question was totaly different then mine, you didnt mean to hijack but you still posted,, and its hard to tell who is talking to who.... dont be a tool make your own thread.

I didn't read well enough to see that your box is already set up for 12s. I suggested the 10" Daytons because they're closer to your budget than the 12" Daytons, but by all means, if your budget allows,go for the 12" daytons.

The JL W3s are also a good option, as is anything from Image Dynamics. Also look at the Alpine Type Rs... they have a good reputation for sound quality.

Audiobahn has a terrible reputation of being "all show and no go" They load all their stuuf with chrome, and it looks really cool, but generally do not sound good. I have also had alot of people tell me about reliability problems. Rockford used to be a company with higher regard than they are now, they have started making cheaper stuff and Im sure their failed MB Quart investment also hurt financially.

if you have any interest at all in maintaining any level of sound quality, steer clear of the *****. they can get loud, but are among the worst sounding speakers i've ever heard.

I have said this before, but I feel the best value sub out there is the IDQ, they can get loud with a modest power requirement, and have excellent SQ for the price tag

If you're looking on Cardomain, check out their factory refurbished and open-box sections. I got my 10" Image Dynamics IDQ10 v2 there for about $105, and a Rockford mono amp to power it for $100.

Parts Express is offering free shipping on all orders over $100 right now, so you can save some big money on those Dayton subs.

Also, forget about the power ratings for all of these subs. That's not a good way to evaluate them. The power rating doesn't tell you much of anything. The most important part of what determines sound quality is the type and quality of the motor structure, which is something that very few specifications can tell you. Of all the subs in your list (or mentioned in this thread), the Dayton subs have by far the best motor structure, and I assume (though I haven't heard them yet) will provide the best sound quality. Other subs with a massive x-max might get a little bit louder, but not with a modest amplifier. Those subs with huge x-max usually are terribly inneficient and need massive amounts of power to get real loud. The daytons still have a pretty good efficiency rating, so if you've got 300-400 watts per sub, you'll get a ton of output from them, and they'll sound better in the process.

never heard any of their subs, but i've heard a lot of good things and can attest to the quality of daytons 7 inch midranges.

like i said jim, read closer on those sites: Free shipping.... • Applies to continental U.S. delivery addresses only. (Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, APO/FPO addresses and international addresses are not eligible for free shipping.)
Plus i wont be buying till after xmas anyhow maybe not even till spring anyhow.

Cardomain is the only place that i found to offer canada free shipping also!!

And about the watt rateings i only put them on there, like you say compare the bad with the bad.... knowing that when i see a sub with a 1000w max rating and look at the rms and see like 300w thats not a good buy. Those numbers i just put there to get a very general idea what options i want to go with because your rite im only putting a very limited watts to them anyhow. I dont pay too much attention to em anyhow dont worry.

Just chiming in here. Does anyone here remember Coustic? Well, they have (or at least had) a line of carbon fiber cone subs that were dual voice coil and good power handling capability. I wore out a pair of JL Audio 10W0 subs a year ago and found these on Soundomain.com. A killer deal was going on at the time of 2 for the price of one. I scored the last pair at the time and they work great. I have the lower half of the rear well sealed with these two 10" subs mounted and they have a tremendous hit and sound like 12s when hitting the really low notes. I got the long story about the whole Xtant/MTX/Coustic family feud back when I bought them and how Coustic was the bastard child of the bunch and how their sub could blow out the high dollar MTX and Xtant speakers in every factor of performance. If they're still available I'd recommend them highly.
