Ample amp cooling in this location?

What do you guys think about mounting my amps in here? In the space where the blue cable is.

The 4 channel (Rockford P400-4) would go on one side, the 1 channel (Rockford P300-1) on the other.

Two things I'm worried about:
1.) Will they be able to cool themselves sufficiently?
2.) Do I need rear speakers?/Is it cool to mount the rear speakers down lower without making it sound weird?

I was thinking of adding some kind of fan to cool the amps if it turned out that they were overheating. Input on that?

I read places that "Oh no you don't need rear speakers blah dee blah blah blah" But I dunno.

I'm going to get some nice components for upfront, don't know what yet. Willing to spend 300-400 on them. And I have a 10" sub in the back.

So... please share your knowledge with me.

Re: Ample amp cooling in this location?

Back in the day I competed, and would see amps mounted in all sorts of unique locations. I usually put mine under false floors and panels and, unless you're running subs at reduced ohm loads, they always held up. If you really push the amps and want cheap insurance (especially if you don't want to tear out your interior later), get some small 3" fans from radio shack, wire 'em up, and either blow on them directly or get cheap ductwork and plumb it. Another tip - if you can, mount your amps so the heat runs UP the heatsinks (vertically in most cases) instead of parallel to the ground. Good luck!!

Re: Ample amp cooling in this location?

That's reassuring. The amps have have the heatsinks running around the entire perimeter. I was going to mount them sideways with the long side running parallel to the length of the car. That bad?

The Sub is a DVC and will be set at 2 Ohms. Does that mean the amp will run hotter?

Thanks, so far.

Re: Ample amp cooling in this location?

Would strongly recommend mounting the heatsinks lllll instead of =. Warm air rises, and if it can go straight up it will run cooler than if it has to go sideways, then up. Especially with no ventilation to help move that heat sideways.

And will it run hotter? Depends on several factors, including the quality of the amp and the purpose of the amp. You can buy lots of 40x2 amps that are 2ohm stable, but putting them on a sub will work them too hard. If it's a "sub amp", and it's "supposed" to run 2 ohms, the internals are designed (usually) better to handle that kind of use. A good (but not always perfect) indicator is how high you set the gain. If you have to turn the gain all the way up to get the sound you want, your amp is going to have to work pretty hard which equals more heat. If you only turn it up 1/4 of the way, it should be very happy for a lot of years, even tucked away in there. Not to sound all condescending, but using parts of a stereo system as they're designed is really the key to a well-balanced, long-lasting system. Although I have very little personal experience with Fosgates, if it's Rockford Fosgate and rated at 300x1 I suspect you will have no trouble whatsoever. Might want to wire up and "test drive" your system to see if what you have does what you want the way you want it before you tuck everything away.

I think there's a thread on your "rear speaker" dilemma. Either way, all that juice in an F-body is sure to rock!

Thank you. That wasn't condescending at all. Gave me all the info I need. Amps vertical and I won't have rear speakers for now.

well, hope it helps anyway. Maybe someone can benefit from all the mistakes I've learned from over the years!! Sounds like you're well on your way to a rockin' and totally stealth install.
