changeing stock fuel pump on L69 305 to a carter H.V. mechanical pump-Questions......

I was going to swap out the stock pump for the factory pump,But i noticed a few differences between the stock pump and the carter pump. The main difference is the lines. On the stock pump there are 3 lines, one is a return line, and the other 2 are Your "in" and "out" lines.I know i can by-pass the return line,But one of the other lines is a A-N type screw in line,And the other is just a rubber hose line that you tighten by tightening the screw. The carter pump (part #m6900)only has provisions for 2 A-N type lines.Am i going to have to change one of the lines to a A-N type line?Does anyone else have this fuel pump,And if you do,How did you make yours work?

Go to your nearest autoparts store and do one of a few different things...

1) Get some steel fuel line (5/8" I believe) and a pipe cutter. The steel line should come with the fitting all ready flared on the end. Make the appropriate bends to clear the smog pump/whatever and cut it off a few inches later. Clamp the rubber hose on and drive away.

2) Get a fitting (ones for air compressors work). Screw it in. Clamp hose on barbed end and drive away.

If you don't want to bend a new inlet line, then the stock one should screw in OK.

BTW- You are aware that you can rotate the base too... right? That may come in handy.

The stock pump is 5/8-18 inverted flare on the outlet and 3/8" hose on the inlet. I believe the Carter pump is 1/4" NPT. You could use a 1/4" NPT to 3/8" hose barb for the inlet, like an Earl's P/N 984006. I assume you've already done something to the stock outlet line to put the AFB on. If you have rubber hose from the pump up to the carb, you could use another of the same adapter.
