750cfm edelbrock leaning help.
Hi guys i've just got a 350 s-15 that idle real bad.
have edelbrock 1407, 750cfm.
882 stock recently rebuilt heads, block recently rebuilt too.
eldelbrock rpm intake, and an unknown cam that feel too big lol. might be the edelbrock one , who knows! the previous owner didnt.
so the problem is that the carb run too rich, it idle very rough and i cant use the choke! it dies if more than 1/8 applied! i really want to lean it somewhat and be able to use the choke.
Other than the idle, as soon as you give it 1/8 of thottle or more it run fine (maybe it still rich but atleast it doesnt stumble and run so rough). wich mean if i just bump the idle it can run smooth but will diesel on shutdown because i'm going out of the idle circuit i guess.
i think the carb is out of the box spec, and it does look that old either, it's in piece right now to be cleaned so i can go check the jets and stuff like that if you guys tell me where to look at.
So i want to lean it to make my choke work , also it drink gasoline faster than i'd like. I didnt buy the carb, if i would have i would have choose a 650cfm.
heck its the first time i open one and its much easier than Qjets.
Any suggestion, tip, on what to change, test to do, common edelbrock problems?
Also when i look down the carb at idle i see wayyy more fuel being dumped than my Qjet(in the Trans-Am) <- the trans-am choke work fine and doesnt flood the engine.
After removal of the carb the intake was very wet, but very clean, same for the bottom of carb.
I just want to make sure i can run that 750 cfm on my 350. having a bigger than stock cam may need some change to be done in the carb but i dont know much about modding/tunning carb other than changing parts in it from a rebuilding kit.
Thanks
Yanick

no reply hummm.
I'm about to try something, i've read somewhere that having a big cam (i'm not sure how big mine is) = low vaccuum at idle = it's not succking the primary metering rods down good at idle wich result in fuel being dumped at idle sooooo...
what i'm about to try after the reasembly is to unscrew the 2 plate than keep the metering rod & springs in the carb airhorn, then have someone start the engine while i use my fingers to hold the metering rods down/closed. but that still make for alots of fuel to pass since the damn jets look very big/ the rod in the jet still alow for lets say 3/4 of orifice size... and i cant read the jets size on the primary but i'm guessing there out of the box size, since the metering rods, and secondary is.

it's back togheter the float level was too high so i ajusted that to 7/16" per recomendation on eddies site.
Not much improve on the idle, i did remove the "acces" plate of the primary metering rods to see if they where sucked down at idle like it should and they where fully down (the spring are orange). i guess buying some smaller jets (the one that screw in) would be a good idea then, it's burn the eye if you pass behind the exaust exit, but it's not smoking black.
I dont have a vac gauge here hum... at least i dont think so. maybe i could look but my father told me he dont have one, lol, i ask me what it was when i asking him where he put it.
Now can i go low, lets say a .100 jet in this carb( or no fit?), i have .113 now. i know this engine would be much better with a 650cfm but i'm low on buck (so i may stick with this 750cfm) and this truck is just to haul parts/stuff with even though it has a high stall convertor too lol.
Also when revved in neutral (as i'm not going on the road without a lisence plate), it reev fast but when gas let off it "stumble" down the car & engine shakes as the rpm goes down.
